Job Description

Maintenance Inventory Specialist - Warren, MI
Day Shift - Start time can be between 6am to 8am

Position Summary
The Maintenance Inventory Specialist organizes and documents customer maintenance inventory and enters approved item information into inventory management systems. This position combines project coordination and hands-on inventory work.
The specialist works with the company's designated project champion to organize storage areas, identify and count inventory, build a location layout, create Item records, and apply barcode labels. The role requires strong attention to detail, clear communication, and consistent follow-through.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily project activities with the customer's project champion, including work priorities, site access, and open decisions.
  • Walk maintenance storage areas and help establish a practical floor, shelf, and bin-location layout.
  • Organize retained inventory by category and assigned location.
  • Identify items for customer review when they are obsolete, damaged, unidentified, or potentially for disposal. Do not discard or relocate items for disposal without customer authorization.
  • Inspect and record inventory details, including manufacturer, manufacturer part number, description, quantity on hand, serial number when applicable, bin location, category, and photograph.
  • Enter and maintain item records in the SupplyPoint database.
  • Print and apply barcode labels to inventory or storage locations, as appropriate, and confirm that labels correspond to database records.
  • Flag missing, unclear, or conflicting information for customer review rather than entering unverified details.
  • Identify bins, shelving, labels, or other organizational supplies that may be needed; obtain customer approval before purchase.
  • Track work completed, inventory records entered, hours worked, and unresolved questions.
  • Provide regular progress updates to the customer's project champion and the company's supervisor.
  • Follow customer site rules, safety requirements, and the company's procedures.

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to record information accurately and follow a consistent labeling and location system.
  • Comfortable using a computer, barcode scanner, camera or mobile device, and inventory software.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work with customer personnel.
  • Able to work independently while coordinating decisions and priorities with the customer.
  • CNC Machine Maintenance knowledge or experience is required to help recognize and understand maintenance parts, equipment, and spare components.
