Room Attendants also known as Room Attendants and Guest room attendants are responsible for cleaning hotel guest rooms while providing great customer service. They ensure that rooms are cleaned according to operating and quality standards and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
- Make beds, change linens and towels
- Vacuum rugs, carpets, and upholstered furniture
- Clean bathrooms: toilets, bathtubs, mirrors, mops floors, sinks, and empties trash
- Replenish supplies, such as soap and bathroom tissue
- Dust and polish furniture and equipment
- Other duties as assigned
- Maintain a friendly demeanor when interacting with guests, co-workers and property employees
- Anticipate the guest’s needs and demonstrate service passion
- Report lost and found to Internal Supervisor or Hotel Supervisor
- Ensure rooms meet the hotel’s quality standards
- Follow all required safety and standard operating procedures
- Follow all company and regulatory policies, procedures and standards of conduct
Work Environment
Room attendants work indoors. The work can be physically demanding. Physical strength and stamina are required. A Room attendants must be able to perform their duties without getting overly tired. They spend most of their day on their feet, scrubbing, stooping, bending, and stretching, and sometimes lifting heavy mattresses or pushing heavy furniture. It is important these tasks be performed diligently or sprains and back injuries can occur.
Training
There are no formal training or education requirements. Most room attendants are trained on the job by more experienced workers, leads, or supervisors.
Advancement
Advancement opportunities are often limited to those who remain on the job for a long period of time. After gaining experience, some workers advance to a variety of opportunities that include lead and supervisory positions. (Lead, Dispatcher, Inspector, Trainer; Supervisor and Executive Housekeeper)
Skills and Specialized Knowledge
Detail oriented. Because room attendants are responsible for cleaning rooms, they must pay close attention to detail.
Interpersonal skills. Room Attendants often come into contact with people whose spaces they are cleaning. They must be polite and friendly.
Levels for Room Attendant Positions
Entry level: entry level attendants have no experience and are trained by a housekeeping lead or account supervisor. They typically work alongside a more experienced room attendant.
Mid level: mid level attendants have a minimum of 1 year solid work experience in a hotel, motel and or resort. They require minimal training and are usually able to work on their own upon learning the standard operating procedures and requirements.
Lead/Trainer these attendants have more than 2 years solid work experience. Upon exhibiting through performance their level of expertise they are eligible or are hired into a lead and or trainer position. Leads ensure that standards of operation are set so housekeeping services are operating as smoothly as possible and accordingly to expectations. Leads may be responsible for training as part of the lead duties and instruct entry level and new personnel on standard operating procedures and responsibilities.

Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bi-lingual; experienced.
- Must meet company and hotel hire requirements
- Work with a variety of cleaning equipment and chemicals
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds
- Maintain a friendly demeanor when interacting with guests, co-workers and property employees
- Anticipate the guest’s needs and demonstrate service passion
- Ensure rooms meet the hotel’s quality standards
- Report lost and found to Internal Supervisor or Hotel Supervisor
- Ability to perform all duties as instructed
- Follow all required safety and standard operating procedures
- Follow all company and regulatory policies, procedures and standards of conduct
- Must meet company and hotel grooming standards
- Must wear slip resistant shoes to avoid slips and falls
- Must have reliable transportation
Education and Experience
High School diploma or GED preferred, but not necessary

Work Schedules
Must be able to work a flexible schedule: morning, evenings, weekends and holidays
Report to work on schedule dates and time and maintain a responsible attendance record
