Key Responsibilities

The incumbent must have the knowledge and skill to perform any all quality measures associated with Spray Process and Final Cured Panel Quality Measures, such as Atomization, Fan Pattern Measurement, % Overlap, Droplet Size & Size Distribution, Foil-Solids Measures, DFT, Autospect, Wave-Scan, Profilometer, Color X-Rite, Pop & Sag Evaluations, etc. Further, the incumbent must be able to equate potential Applications Process Conditions with the Wet Film and the Final Cured Film outcomes, such that Spray Process “Cause & Effect” relationships can be tested, evaluated, and acted on.

The incumbent must be able to operate in any Applications Laboratory. This means being able to use learned knowledge, experience, and skill, to plan, organize, direct, and execute logical and meaningful spray process experimentation in any PPG or Customer Lab or Large Scale Applications Development Center. At the same time the incumbent must be able to effectively communicate both plans of action and expected learning from the results with PPG Chemists, Regionals, TSSR’s, or Customers. The incumbent must be able to prepare reports, supporting panels, and presentations where necessary.

The incumbent, while not a chemist, must have some reasonable level of understanding about the wet properties, viscosities, and film forming properties of PPG coatings. Further, the incumbent must understand, and communicate effectively about the “Applications Process to Coatings Performance” relationships both in general terms and more specifically were specific testing has been performed.

Qualifications

Experience and Education

College course work in math, science, physics, or Applied Science Degrees in Mechanical Engineering or the like are desired. The incumbent must have a high mechanical attitude and computer skills as necessary for recording, analyzing, and reporting data in software such Word, Excel, Power-Point, and/or Spray Process System Software Interfaces. The Incumbent must have minimally (5) Years Applications Spray experience, most preferable in Automated Automotive or General Industrial process settings. Further, the incumbent must have a sound working knowledge of PPG laboratory operations and ADC Spray Facilities. The incumbent may be called upon for some travel both nationally and internationally %5 to 10% of their time and will be asked to share their learned expertise with others, both PPG and Customers.

Functional and Technical Skills

Capable of Documenting Experiments, Preparing Reports, & Management/Customer Presentations

° Planning Simple & Logical Applications Experiments, either “In Lab” or “On-Line” or at PPG ADC’s

° Documenting Test Results – and Interpreting what is learned into “Next Step” Actions

° Plan, Direct, and Execute – “Next Step” Actions into:

- Correlation Between Customer Line & Specific PPG Applications Lab or ADC’s

- Applications Problem Resolution either “On Line” or “In Labs or ADC’s”

- “Matrix Workability” Process that can be used “In Lab” for Coatings Product Screening

- Completing each with a Formal Report or Presentation
