About this job

The LVN and/or Psychiatric Technician is responsible for providing nursing care for psychiatric/chemical dependency patients under the direction of a registered nurse to include administering and monitoring the effectiveness/side effects of medications/treatments ordered by physician. Ensures patient safety and assists with milieu management.

. Documents ongoing patient assessments/progress clearly and concisely.

. Medication management.

. Participates as member of interdisciplinary treatment team.

. Provides milieu management.

. Reports unsafe conditions.

. Provides age-specific communication, limit setting and interventions.

. Provides health education to patients and their families.

. Interacts with patients and staff in professional manner, promotes teamwork and demonstrates Service Excellence

. Attends mandatory staff meetings.

. Performs other duties as assigned.

The following are the job requirements for the LVN position: . Graduation from an accredited nursing program. Licensed by the California Board Of Vocational Nursing And Psychiatric Technician.

. One year adult/adolescent psychiatric and/or chemical dependency nursing experience preferred.

. Knowledge of nursing practices and procedures

. Knowledge of appropriate nursing assessment, diagnosis, treatment, planning intervention and evaluation of psychiatric patients

. Ability to administer medication/treatments and monitor for effectiveness and side effects

. Knowledge of milieu management, ability to safely implement special treatment procedures

. Skills in developing therapeutic relationships with adults, adolescents and their families

. Skills in preparing and maintaining appropriate medical record documentation

. Skills in providing education to patients and families about their health needs

. Skill in oral and written communication skill in the operation of nursing equipment

. Ability to plan, organize and conduct patient care processes in a timely manner

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITON:

. Must be willing and able to execute the patient de-escalation methods, both verbal and physical.

. Must be able to complete new hire requirements such as nationwide background check and drug testing.

. Must be able to demonstrate special training, knowledge and skills specific to age groups, as well as job and/or program specific competency within the first three (3) months of training.

. Must be certified in CPR and CPI within the first month of training and annually thereafter.

. Must complete all mandatory in-services annually.

. Must be tested for Tuberculosis with a PPD skin test or chest x-ray upon hire PPD evaluation annually thereafter.
