Job Description

General Summary: This position is an integral part of the Logistics Finance organization and is a challenging, fast-paced role supporting Gap Inc.'s Global Transportation team. The position will support the North American & European Transportation Finance Team with responsibilities including accounting, budgeting and forecasting. This position will prepare annual budgets and monthly forecasts, perform monthly general accounting duties, support accounting controls, execution of account reconciliations, and publishing of financial reports for all Brands of Gap Inc. In addition, will prepare financial analysis and provide support to the Senior Manager, and Director, with financial management and decision support for Outbound freight. Partner with Outbound operational teams to understand end to end operations, improve financial visibility and deliver financial goals. This position has exposure to Transportation Operations, Logistics and Corporate Finance Senior Management on a regular basis, as well as with Corporate and Brand Finance teams.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform queries within financial systems, enter journal entries and other data
  • Perform monthly reconciliations that include accruals, reversals, debits/credits, and other journal entries; work with local and foreign currencies
  • Maintain database of key performance indicators from various departments within transportation. Show trends, interpret data and recommend actions.
  • Publish monthly reports accurately and timely that include financial data and key performance indicators
  • Assist in preparation of the annual budget, monthly forecasts and close projections, and variance analysis to explain cause-of-change
  • Provide value added financial analysis to support operating decisions
  • Develop cost models to calculate impact of service level agreements and aid in selection of options
  • Communicate within Logistics, other functions, as well as Brand Finance teams
  • Utilize knowledge of industry best practices to support critical analysis and decision-making
  • Participate in evaluation and implementation of relevant processes or systems to capture and monitor transportation costs at the appropriate level

Organizational Relationships: This position frequently interacts with Transportation Operations, Logistics and Corporate Finance Senior Management on a regular basis, as well as with Corporate and Brand Finance teams, and the Corporate Shared Services Center.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, (CPA a plus)
  • 5-7 years of accounting, finance, analysis, and/or reporting experience with fast paced business environments preferred.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Experience with financial systems; knowledge of accounting controls.
  • Experience with budget management; developing forecasts and budgets
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Access, & PowerPoint) required
  • Knowledge in Business Information (BI) Systems; specifically related to data warehousing (Oracle based platforms preferred)
  • Experience in developing models and providing analysis of complex business issues; cost-benefit analysis; variance analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret data and provide relevant conclusions/recommendations to management.
  • Experience working with large data sets (Access/SQL skills a plus).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to probe beyond an issue to find underlying cause & determine solution
  • Strong Attention to Detail and Follow-up
  • Proven ability to develop effective business partner relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills reflecting prioritization with sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with high sense of urgency

  • Experience with financial database systems (Oracle and Essbase experience preferred). Excellent PC skills.
