THE POSITION: Staff Accountant (Exempt)

REPORTS TO: Vice President, Finance

THE ORGANIZATION

Saint Francis Foundation ("SFF"), established in 1979, is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds that support patient care, capital improvements, and life-saving programs at Saint Francis Memorial Hospital ("the Hospital").

Saint Francis Memorial Hospital is San Francisco's leading non-sectarian community medical care center since 1905; it is affiliated with Dignity Health. The Hospital serves more than 100,000 outpatients annually. Located at 900 Hyde Street near downtown San Francisco, the Hospital is at the nexus of two neighborhoods of extremes - the affluence of Nob Hill and the urban poverty of the Tenderloin. The Hospital contributed over 8.5 million cost adjusted dollars in charity care to the San Francisco community in 2011 - Saint Francis Memorial Hospital turns no patient away!

SFF is responsible for managing more than $90 million in assets, and assists in securing gifts from friends, patients, foundations and corporations for special projects and programs. These funds represent the generosity of more than 4,000 donors.

A Board of Directors comprised of community members, physicians, and hospital staff governs SFF. The Board size ranges from 25 to 30 members. SFF staff, Board members and community members serve on various committees to help carry out the goals and objectives.

SFF's 11 staff members carry out the goals of the Board in consultation with the leadership of the Hospital. The annual operating budget of SFF is $4.3 million.

THE POSITION

The Staff Accountant reports to the Vice President of Finance and works under the daily direction of the Controller.He/she is responsible for performing a variety of accounting duties including managing accounts payable and receivable, recording revenues/gifts, grant accounting, and filing, including electronic filing.

This is an exempt position.

Generally, the Staff Accountant will:

* Promote the missions of the Foundation and the Hospital by performing duties with discretion, cooperation, courtesy and respect for all individuals.
* Ensure the continuing growth of the Foundation by assisting the Director of Finance, Controller and Foundation staff in reporting accuracy and completeness of the accounting and administration functions.
* Contribute to the maintenance of a positive relationship with donors and other SFF stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Major functions and responsibilities include:

* Accounts payable - review for appropriate approvals on each invoice and accuracy of billing amounts, natural class code. Assist in running checks, obtain appropriate signatures, and disburse payments. Respond to all inquiries concerning accounts payable.Review and process expense reports and receipts submitted by company cardholders on a monthly basis.
* Accounts receivable:
o process credit card contributions and reconcile the cash in the checking account
o prepare and send out statements of accounts for past-due sums monthly
o recommend to Controller the accounts to be written off
* Manage the process of cash receipts, recording of revenue and receivable and work closely with development and database team to ensure that revenues and receivables in Abila MIP are reconciled with the database
* Substitute as back up for database manager for gift data entry into Raisers Edge database
* Prepare assigned month end closing entries, analysis & reconciliations on assigned GL accounts
* Fundraising events support (revenue, expense, final reporting, assistance at each event)
* Assist the Finance team in annual audit preparation
* Carry out projects and duties as assigned by the Director of Finance

MINIMUM CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

*BA in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field, 2 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, non-profit experience preferred
* Knowledge of GAAP accounting basics
* Accuracy and attention to details
* Deadline oriented and capable of multitasking.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong command of the English language.Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate effectively with all levels of staff including senior level management.
* Demonstrated ability to be flexible and positive in an intense, changing and often stressful work environment.
* Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment, diplomacy and sensitivity to all constituents.
* Demonstrated commitment to maintaining patient and donor confidentiality.
* Must be PC literate with Microsoft Word and Excel programs. Knowledge of database management systems such as Blackbaud's Raisers Edge and accounting software preferred.
* Must be familiar with standard office equipment, including but not limited to, photocopying, sending facsimiles, 10-key, and computer printers.Must be able to lift 25lbs.
