MARYVIEW NURSING CARE CENTERPOSITION SUMMARY The Professional Development Specialist provides a broad range of support services to assure effective coordinator, integration, and efficient procedures regarding training and education is being provided. The Professional Development Specialist conducts a variety of educational programs and orientation, encompassing all levels of ability and needs of employees within Long Term Care and Assisted Living facilities. Responsible for taking part in determining budget needs for current and future Staff Development.Responsible for the educational and training needs of employees within the extended care/LTC department. Responsible for assessing employee skills, planning program development activities and implementation of identified educational programs. Responsible for utilizing the nursing process, principles of adult learning, teaching and learning theories, conducting appropriate teaching strategies and expert critical thinking knowledge for education planning. Serves as a clinical role model and internal consultant for clinical practice, projects, and continuous improvement. The Professional Development Specialist will also work to improve policies and procedures that benefit the learning process. Responsible for maintaining records and preparing status reports regarding completed work and employee compliance. Travels to local facilities as deemed necessary to conduct mandatory training. Works in collaboration with other educators within the region including acute care facilities to develop, coordinate and implement in-service education and staff development programs to promote safe and effective patient-centered care.All employees, if applicable, are expected to adhere to the BSHR Automobile Safety Program per policy. JOB REQUIREMENTS 1. Registered Nurse currently licensed with the Virginia State Board of Nursing.2. Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing preferred.3. Thorough knowledge of the nursing process and clinical nursing practice with at least 5 years of clinical experience and at least 2 years of education experience.4. Experience with principles of continuous quality improvement, adult learning principles, and program planning required.5. Current Basic Life Support Instructor certification (BLS). For critical care and emergency department, Advance Life Support required within 6 months of employment and ACLS Instructor certification. 6. Management experience in healthcare preferred.7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.8. Internal consulting skills.9. Proficient in Microsoft Office and clinical information systems.10. Working knowledge and expertise in education concepts and processes necessary for assessment, development, planning, and implementation and evaluation of learning. An essential function of this position is to comply with BSHSI Policy (SYS.HR.NUR.001) which requires, as a condition of employment, that all registered nurses with diplomas or associate degrees who apply and are hired after May 1, 2015 complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree within five years of start date.
