Department Head-in-Training - Full-time

As a Department Head-in-Training, you will shadow a Department Head in an area of the soflines (Apparel/Footwear) or hardlines (Fitness, Outdoor, Ski, etc.) departments while developing your skills to assume full responsibility of a specific department. Department Heads (Lead Associates) manage and develop a small team of 2-10 employees. Overall, you will strive to motivate your team to exceed daily, weekly and monthly sales and operational goals while also ensuring a memorable customer shopping experience. You must be a highly motivated team player who is friendly, goal oriented and driven to sell in a customer-focused environment. This is a lead sales associate (DHIT) position and the first level of management within the organization. Success in this role could lead into a Department Head role and ultimately a store-level Supervisor position within the organization.

Responsibilities:

  *   Execute the day-to-day operational functions of the department
  *   Directly accountable for overall sales and performance of the department
  *   Strive to attain daily, weekly and monthly sales and operational goals, and coach your team to do the same
  *   Heavy interaction with customers at all levels
  *   Flex staff to accommodate the needs of the business
  *   Demonstrate technical skills related to the department
  *   Implement merchandising/sales directives to meet company guidelines
  *   Execute floor moves as directed by the visual team
  *   Continuously develop overall product knowledge and remain current with industry trends
  *   Develop and enhance management skills while leading by example
  *   Train, coach, develop, and review direct reports
  *   Interview applicants and make hiring recommendations
  *   Communicate with all levels of staff including management
  *   Execute the day-to-day operational functions of the department
  *   Work closely with visual merchandising team

Desired Qualifications:

A varied schedule will include day, evening, weekend and holiday shifts. FULL TIME, HOURLY.

  *   Must have exceptional customer service skills
  *   Ability to suggestively sell and be persuasive; effectively coach others to maximize sales
  *   Strong visual merchandising experience preferred
  *   At least 2 years experience in retail; apparel/footwear experience preferred
  *   Ability to lead a team
  *   Strong communication skills; Organized
  *   Bilingual a plus
