Emergency Department Pharmacist

Job Responsibilities

The primary duty of an emergency room pharmacist is to:
  • Review medications ordered by doctors while ensuring they are accurate and represent the proper treatment for each patient.
  • The pharmacist may dispense the medication him/herself from supplies kept in the emergency room area, or send the order to the hospital's main pharmacy.
  • When medications are administered, the pharmacist monitors their effectiveness and checks for adverse reactions.
  • The position also involves dispensing medications to patients being released from the emergency room, and offering counseling on their proper use.
  • Emergency room pharmacists participate in the immediate treatment of medical emergencies including venomous snake and insect bites, severe trauma, or cardiovascular conditions such as cardiac arrest and stroke.
  • They also obtain prescription histories from patients and their health care providers. This may entail contacting relatives, other hospital and retail pharmacies, or doctors.

Specific Oncology Pharmacist requirements:
  • Area: Ability to work in the Sonoma, CA area
  • Licensure requirements: Must have valid, open and active California Pharmacist license
  • Education : Pharm D or B.S.
  • Years of experience: 2-3+ year(s) of recent pharmacy experience within an oncology setting
  • Schedule: TBD
  • Length of Assignment: Temp to hire
  • Pay: DOE
  • Background/drug requirements: Ability to successfully complete background check, client health screening criteria and drug screen
