POSITION PURPOSE -

The Senior DBA should be proficient on SQL Server 2008, 2008 R2 and 2012 support, advanced performance tuning, monitoring and troubleshooting techniques. Have advanced experience with database internal operations including but not limited to: backups, restores, data extracts, security configuration and disk space allocation. Experience with backup and restore using non-native IBM Tivoli Data Protection backup tool. The Senior DBA should have extensive knowledge of SQL Server internal architecture, knowledge of project management concepts to be used on the support of medium to large size databases, familiarity with SQL Server management automation via PowerShell scripting and be able to provide junior DBA mentorship. Proficiency on SQL Server high availability and disaster recovery solutions: replication, mirroring, clustering, log shipping and SQL Server 2012 AlwaysOn. Have experience with installation, configuration and maintenance of SQL Server instances, SQL Server Reporting Services, SQL Server Analysis Services and SQL Server Integrated Services in production and non-production environments. As well as, strong customer services skills with the ability to effectively communicate with customers, project teams and management.




MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Create physical mid-sized database structures based on physical design for development, test, and production environments. Partner with DBA's and provide guidance on lower level projects. Work with system engineers to configure servers for DBMS product installation and mid-sized database creation. Configure and maintain DBMS product software on mid-sized database and application servers. Provide guidance to application development teams on DBMS product technical issues, techniques and SQL review. Provide on-call support for databases 7 X 24 to include being able to investigate, troubleshoot and resolve database problems. Mentor and train other database administrators across lower level projects.

 

NATURE AND SCOPE

Typically reports to Manager, Information Technology Responsible for helping others and providing on-the-job training or guidance.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable. Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION REQUIRED - The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The Senior DBA will be responsible for infrastructure support of The Home Depot’s SQL Server Databases.


Responsibilities include:


• Support for multiple mission critical retail applications, including High Availability Database Replication
• SQL Server performance tuning
• Enforcement of database standards
• Documentation of procedures and best practices
• Capacity planning & trending analysis
• Backup/recovery of database instances
• 24x7 production on-call support on a rotating basis
Qualifications:
• 3-5 years of proficiency on SQL Server high availability and disaster recovery solutions : replication, mirroring, clustering, log shipping and AlwaysOn
• Self-starter who takes initiative to expand knowledge base
• Solid verbal and written communication skills
• College degree

• Experience with SQL Server administration; advanced knowledge of Windows Operating Systems
• Proficiency with SQL and PowerShell scripting
• Knowledge of another RDBMS, such as Oracle
• Solid knowledge of database security features: audit, user access restriction
• Certifications in SQL Server and/or Microsoft technologies

 



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES

Working knowledge of the complete software development life cycle. Proficient with operating systems software, networking tools, application development and multidimensional tools. Working knowledge of relational databases, logical modeling, and data warehouse. Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
