BASIC PURPOSE: This individual will be part of the database administration team. The DBA team is responsible for performance tuning, backups, integration, ETL, database configuration, SQL server installation, database monitoring, troubleshooting database issues, database modeling, SSIS packages, and completing tasks as assigned for projects.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with other team members collaboratively in understanding and resolving database issues including database performance problems
  • Installation of SQL Server (2008/2008 R2/2012/2016) including Active-Active/Active-Passive clustering, AlwaysON configuration, pre/post configuration (OLAP vs. OLTP vs. Data Warehouse vs. Reporting), physical files & file group configuration
  • Complete project tasks as assigned on time
  • Follow established processes for change control/SDLC
  • Provide on call support as needed to support operations of critical databases. We are a 24 X 7 environment and all DBAs take part in the on call rotation
  • Able to understand and troubleshoot complex business logic in stored procedures, identify problems and provide solutions
  • Work with other members of the team and the server group to provide operational support and triage
  • Work with break-fix team to resolve production issues
  • Proactively monitor the databases (performance, backups, security, database file sizes etc.)
  • Identify poorly performing queries, stored procedures, views etc., as well as take steps to improve performance this includes index design and maintenance
  • Other duties assigned as needed

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Required Education:

  • High school diploma

Minimum Required experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of database development and operational support in large scale SQL Server environment

 

SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Strong understanding of the SDLC
  • Strong proficiency in processing/transforming large XML files (XSLT, XSD etc.)
  • Strong SQL Server database operations background with Windows Server experience (DMVs, Profiler, Perfmon, DBCC etc.)
  • Strong proficiency in query optimization including logical query processing, resource (Disk/IO/Processor) utilization analysis, retrieval and dissection of query execution plans
  • Prior experience with high availability (Clustering Vs. Mirroring Vs. Log Shipping Vs. Replication Vs AlwaysON) and disaster recovery (backup and recovery strategies)
  • Prior experience with SQL security and SQL auditing
  • SSAS skills is a plus
  • Experience with creating / consuming web services is a plus
  • Data modeling experience is a plus
  • SAP HANA experience a plus
  • Certifications related to Microsoft SQL Server are a plus

 

Typical physical demands:

  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator
  • Requires normal range of hearing and vision
