About this job

The Billing Specialist is responsible for collecting, posting and managing account payments, and for submitting claims and following up with insurance companies. ​  

 Responsibilities:

  • Process claims for products and services to patients Vision Plans and/or Medical Plans as applicable.
  • Routine communications with insurance providers to ensure accurate and timely reimbursements EOB postings.
  • Maintain AR collections within 45 days posting.
  • Verify patient data for accurate billing.
  • Process monthly patient statements.
  • Backup to incoming calls and scheduling.
  • Maximize insurance reimbursements through routine billing audits.
  • Resolve patient billing inquiries and/or complaints.
  • Processes delinquent accounts for collections.
  • Ensures practice awareness of changes in Insurance procedures/policies.
  • Maintains insurance credentialing.
  • Maintains HIPPA compliancy.
  • Secures all patient insurance authorizations prior to service.
  • Process corrected claims as applicable.

Requirements:

  • Extremely detail oriented.
  • Motivated, goal oriented, and persistent.
  • High level of initiative and works well in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Plans and carries out responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • High School diploma.
  • Knowledge of medical billing/collection practices.
  • Knowledge of basic medical coding and third-party operating procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of business office procedures.
  • Ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment. 

Preferred:

  • Experience interacting with customers or patients as well as administrative and office experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite software programs and other clinic-specific software.
