POSITION SUMMARY:

Oversees the daily operations of Cardiology services and is responsible for monitoring the quality control programs under the direction of the Cardiopulmonary Services Manager. Performs routine diagnostic electrocardiograms for use in the diagnosis of heart disorders. Performs EKG testing, signal-averaged EKG's, cardiac treadmill stress testing, bicycle testing, thallium studies, medication-induced stress, vascular testing, ambulatory monitoring studies and ECHO testing.

Principal Accountabilities

* Appropriately labels, measures, logs procedures. Pulls prior procedures.

* Edits and forwards results to attending physician for analysis and interpretation.

* Assists in pacemaker checks.

* Attaches, connects, and operates electrodes from specified body areas to leads from electrocardiograph, stress testing equipment, vascular testing or cardiac monitoring equipment.

* Monitors and instructs patients during procedures.

* Performs all specialized EKG's to protocol (i.e., pediatric transmissions, pacer tracings, EKG's with magnet, carotid studies, rhythm strips), and others as directed by physician.

* Performs and documents quality assurance activities.

* Processes data charge slips for cardiology procedures.

* Provides secretarial back-up for department secretary.

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education, including Licensure/ Certification/ Registration:

* BLS Healthcare provider CPR certification required.

* High School Diploma.

* Recommend: or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge:

* Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the cardiac system.

* In-depth knowledge of cardiac testing the associated equipment and quality control processes. Demonstrated familiarity with TJC (The Joint Commission) accreditation standards.

Experience:

* Experience operating EKG, Treadmill, and Holter monitor scanning equipment as is typically obtained in approximately two years is strongly preferred.

Skills:

* Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

* Must be able to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment and take appropriate actions in volatile situations.

* Must be able to understand, read and write the English language.
