The Department of Health and Human Performance at Texas State
University invites applications for the position of Assistant
Professor in Athletic Training. The Department presently has 51
full time faculty and serves approximately 3,300 undergraduate and
graduate students seeking degrees in Athletic Training, Exercise
and Sports Science, Health Education, and Recreation. Our Division
of Athletic Training has 9 full-time and 4 part-time faculty, and
since 1972 has sponsored an accredited professional athletic
training program offering the Bachelor of Science degree. Our
CAATE-accredited professional athletic training program is planning
a transition to a professional master's degree program by 2022. We
also sponsor an advanced, post-professional athletic training
program that culminates with a Master of Science degree. Currently,
33 certified athletic trainers matriculating in this two-year
program are funded by clinical, teaching, or research graduate
assistantships. The Department of Health and Human Performance has
received approval to plan an interdisciplinary doctoral program in
rehabilitation sciences which includes athletic training.
The successful candidate will be a strong teacher and
researcher. This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position with
a nine-month academic year appointment beginning Fall 2018. The
successful candidate will: (1) be responsible for delivering
quality instruction in graduate and undergraduate courses in
athletic training; (2) pursue a focused area of research that
results in peer reviewed publications and potential for external
funding; (3) serve as an advisor to athletic training master's
degree students; (4) hold current certification and licensure, and
active membership in athletic training organizations; and (5) serve
on committees and participate in official activities at the
department, college, and university levels.
Required Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate (Ph.D., Ed.D.) in athletic training or
related field prior to appointment date;
• Current BOC certification and eligibility for athletic training
licensure in Texas; and
• Demonstrable evidence of research and scholarship
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience teaching at the university level;
• Experience or participation in grant writing and obtaining
external funding for athletic training/sports medicine-related
research projects;
• Experience with graduate education and the ability to contribute
to master's degree programs in athletic training and mentor
graduate students;
• Ability to integrate diversity and multicultural perspectives
into teaching;
• A work history that includes at least three years of athletic
training clinical practice;
• Prior experience as a preceptor in a CAATE-accredited athletic
training program;
Research area that is congruent with existing lines of research
within the Department of Health and Human Performance;
• Demonstrated leadership in program, university and professional
service activities and organizations; and
• Commitment to working collaboratively with department faculty,
staff, and others throughout the institution/organization.
