On behalf of American Institutes for Research (AIR), Headway Workforce Solutions is seeking Part-Time Classroom Assessors to work on a Pre-Kindergarten research study across the state of Alabama. Part-Time Classroom Assessors will conduct assessments of children’s school readiness with students attending Alabama’s 4-year-old Pre-Kindergarten program in schools and centers.

American Institutes for Research (AIR) is a behavioral and social science research organization. AIR’s overriding goal is to use the best science available to bring the most effective ideas and approaches to enhancing everyday life.

Individuals who have experience working with young children are encouraged to apply, especially retired teachers and substitute teachers. Pay for this position begins at $15 per hour but will vary based on experience. Mileage will be reimbursed at $.535 per mile.
 

As a Part-Time Classroom Assessor, you will:

  • Conduct standardized individual child assessments
  • Work between 8-32 hours per week for approximately 9 weeks in February through May 2018 during daytime school hours
  • Complete and return all assignments and assessment data according to required deadlines.
  • Strictly adhere to AIR’s and the school district’s procedures to protect the privacy of children and families.
  • Maintain contact with AIR’s data collection coordinator and other project team members in a timely and professional manner

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in education, child development, psychology, or related field, or equivalent knowledge of early childhood education; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in school-based settings, particularly working with preschool and/or elementary school age children
  • Familiarity with implementing standardized assessment procedures but is not required
  • Strong attention to detail and maintain organized computer-based files and records
  • Ability to work well independently and under the direction of project coordinators.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 90 miles and/or 90 minutes regularly to reach assigned schools in study school districts
  • Have a valid driver’s license and personal reliable transportation to be used for business purposes
  • Pass required background check and fingerprinting process prior to the start of training

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Frequent local travel to respondent locations
  • Be outside and exposed to all types of weather
  • Be exposed to fumes and odors as might be expected in varied environments
  • Communicate through speech and listening
  • Read text verbatim from a notebook or computer screen
  • Transport a laptop computer, equipment, and materials weighing between 10-35 lbs depending on your assignment.

Training and Schedule

  • Paid, in-person, mandatory training is scheduled for February 27th – March 1st 2018 in Calera, AL
  • Further employment is contingent upon successful completion of training and successfully passing a certification test.
  • Qualified candidates should be available to commit for the full length of the study.
