DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

Manatee Springs State Park is looking for a self-motivated, well organized park service professional to fill a Park Services Specialist position, providing visitor services, maintenance, protection, administration, and resource management (particularly Prescribed Burning).

The applicant must possess excellent visitor service and administrative skills, be able to work independently and can perform a variety of skilled trade functions using assorted equipment and tools. The applicant must be able to work rotating shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays. The individual in this position will be expected to provide excellent customer service and deal with visitor inquiries in a tactful and courteous manner.

Additionally, this position involves management of a large volunteer program (recruitment, job descriptions, placement, orientation, training, schedules and evaluations), interpretive / educational programs, public outreach, special events and interface with Citizen Support Organization.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply. In carrying out the duties of this position, the incumbent is expected at all times to be aware of and abide by the Department’s Standards of Conduct, as well as any and all departmental and/or work unit rules, directives, policies, procedures, and/or general orders applicable to performing the duties of this position.

This is a specialized professional position working in research, planning, development and implementation of resource management, visitor services, interpretive and recreational programs and projects including coordination of programs and projects sponsored by a Citizen Support Organization. Duties and responsibilities encompass all properties associated with Manatee Springs Administration (aka Suwannee Basin GEOpark).

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT – Participates in the execution of all facets of prescribed fire. Observes, maintains and protects the natural and cultural resources of the parks. Participates in vegetative and wildlife management plans and activities, including non-native invasive species removal. Collects and records resource management data and submits related reports.

VISITOR SERVICES- Answers public inquiries and assists with visitors as needed. Coordinates all aspects of the parks’ volunteer program including job descriptions, selection of volunteers, orientation, training, monitoring and evaluation and all related documentation and reports. Acts as liaison between volunteers and park manager. Assists Park Manager with Citizen Support Organization management.

MAINTENANCE- Performs and assists in park Maintenance Sensitivity program. Plans and implements universal accessibility projects. Operates a variety of park maintenance equipment including tractors, mowers, chain saws, and various other skilled trade tools.

ADMINISTRATION- Completes time entry, data entry, a variety of monthly and quarterly reports as assigned and follows proper purchasing procedures and guidelines. Plans, organizes and conducts in-service training programs to meet the needs of the park staff.

PROTECTION- Assists park management with attaining voluntary compliance of park rules, monitors visitor behavior, assists in accident reports and management of incidents.

Performs related park work as required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of annual moderate pack test. Prior to being hired, applicant will be given a single opportunity to take and successfully complete a supervised moderate pack test at a date and location to be announced. Pack test requires applicant to complete a two-mile walk while carrying 25lbs in 30 minutes or less.
