Machinist (Outside)

We are searching for a Machinist (Outside) at our Power Management- Norfolk, VA location.

A current DoD Secret Clearance is required at time of hire.

You will demonstrate success by:

  • Removing, repairing, overhauling, installing and aligning main propulsion machinery and associated equipment/components.

  • Removing, repairing, overhauling, installing and aligning equipment associated with auxiliary systems such as condensers, compressors, pumps, forced draft blowers, main feed pumps, various types of valves, cargo handling machinery, anchor handling gear, boat davits, cranes, elevators, conveyors, fire- fighting equipment, machine shop equipment, galley, and laundry equipment.

  • Installing and repairing foundations for operating machinery and principal structures/components of ship's armament.

  • Installing, adjusting, setting, and repairing or replacing various control/regulating or safety devices such as meters, gages, valves, governors and automatic alarms.

  • Testing or assisting in testing of shipboard machinery pier side or on sea trials to prove satisfactory operation and acceptance.

  • Use of various portable and fixed machine tools such as boring bars, milling machines, facing machines and drill presses.

  • Use of precision measuring instruments such as height gages, depth gages, calipers, verniers, various types of micrometers, and assists in the use of optical equipment.

  • Coordinating and arranging for the work of several trades in connection with performing work from information received from technical work documents, blueprints, specifications; written and/or verbal instructions.

Qualifications:

  • Must have four (4) years of experience as an Outside Machinists working on various types of mechanical systems on surface and subsurface vessels.

  • Must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to perform job operation/tasks on conventional and nuclear ships and submarines.

  • Must be assignable to any work center excluding nuclear machinery.

  • Must have the ability to recognize working conditions or use of materials that require initiation of safety precautions and have the PPE for said conditions/materials.

  • Will have working knowledge on how to read and understand the information provided in a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).

  • High school Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

  • A current DoD Secret Clearance is required at time of hire.
