Why Mayo Clinic
The Sparta Med Surg Department seeks motivated and autonomous nursing staff to join our dynamic team. The department cares for a wide range of patients of all ages. Services include observation, inpatient, complex wound care, scheduled outpatients for injections, infusions, and chemo pump disconnects. Hospice and respite care are also offered.
Transitional Care Unit (TCU) is an integrated program on the unit, providing skilled nursing care to complicated medical and surgical patients who require additional healing time, are not able to return home, and are not eligible for nursing home placement due to the complexity of their care, lack of funding and/or guardianship issues. Goal of the program is to achieve a state of wellness such that the patient can return to their previous living arrangement or better.
Position description
The Patient Care Technician assists staff with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care which supports and complements nursing practice under the supervision of a registered nurse. The Patient Care Technician carries out delegated skills that are within those functions limited by law to unlicensed nursing personnel.
Qualifications
Current active status on the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry and must maintain active status.
Basic Cardiac Life Support for healthcare providers- BCLS – certificate of course completion required and must not expire within 3 months after start date. A scanned copy of the certificate of completion or transcripts, including your full name, must be attached to your profile to be considered.
We will only accept certificates of course completion from the following providers:
- American Heart Association (Title: BLS for Healthcare Providers)
- Red Cross (Title: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers or BLS for Healthcare Providers)
- Military Training Network
Additional qualifications
Patient care skills, knowledge of infection control and safety procedures, medical terminology, strong verbal and written communication skills. Requires independent judgment, a high level of motivation, accountability, flexibility, interest in patient care, and compassion for people.
License or certification
Maintain Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry and BLS/CPR certification
