Basic Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Applicants that have been previously certified through American Red Cross or another organization will be tested on all water rescue, first aid, CPR, and spinal management skills prior to working a position regardless of experience or current certification.
  • Lift, carry, push and pull up to 40 lbs. on a frequent basis with no assistance
  • Must be able to push, pull, and carry 150 plus pounds in water.
  • Communicate effectively with ambassadors and guests
  • Work both indoors and outdoors, exposed to a variety of weather conditions
  • Perform the following physical activities on a frequent basis: stand, walk, climb, bend floor- to- waist/waist-to-overhead and reach overhead, simple grasp and fine manipulation tasks
  • Perform all cleaning duties, including use of cleaning chemicals
  • Work a flexible schedule/hours based on business need, to include opening, mid, and closing shifts; nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Shallow Water Guards must be able to pass American Red Cross swim test consisting of: 100 yd continuous swim (un-timed) demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Utilizing the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the arm pits. Complete a timed event within 50 seconds. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using the front crawl or breast stroke. Face may be in or out of water. Swim goggles are not allowed. Submerge to a depth of 4 to 5 feet to retrieve a 10 pound object. Return to the surface and walk or swim 20 yd to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object at the surface of the water.
  • Deep Water Lifeguards must be able to pass American Red Cross/Adventure Island Swim tests consisting of: 300 yd continuous swim (un-timed) demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Utilizing the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the arm pits. Complete a timed event within 1 minute and 40 seconds. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Face may be in or out of water. Swim goggles are not allowed. Starting in water dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10 pound object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yd on the back and return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work in a team environment and interact with others in a professional manner
  • Provide effective scanning in area(s) of responsibility, positively enforcing park safety rules, work to prevent and/or respond to aquatic or first aid emergencies.
  • Follow SOP’s necessary to perform job functions to serve our guests a quality product
  • Interact with guests by greeting them and providing excellent service in an efficient and courteous manner
  • Ensure the correct and safe dispatch of guests at proper intervals on slides, provide crowd control for queue lines, stacking and/or inflating of tubes, and distribution of ride vehicles to guests.
  • Sweep, hose, or air blow pathways clear of trash and debris, pressure wash, change trash cans liners, vacuum pools, organize storage areas or rake sand.
  • Participate in American Red Cross and SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment audit process.
  • Maintain a professional appearance that meets SEA grooming standards.
  • Cross-train and work in other areas of the park as needed.
  • Consistently practice safe work habits including the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), lifting and reporting unsafe situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
