About this job

Summary: 
The Delicatessen Manager at Paradise provides overall management and supervision of the Delicatessen. Responsible for Team Member hiring, development, and terminations. Also responsible for profitability, expense control, buying/merchandising, regularity compliance, and special projects as assigned. Complete accountability for all aspects of department operations.  This position works closely with the Chef.
This position reports to Mel Gilmour.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
-Achieve and maintain the highest standards in retail execution. 
-Provide customers with great customer service.
-Provide customers with a varied product mix meeting dietary needs and requests.
-Develop and manage direct reports (departmental staff).
-Oversee inventory, pricing, and labor to achieve targeted gross profit margin.
-Maintain creative store layout and product merchandising.
-Follow established food safety, cleaning and maintenance procedures. 
-Know and practice proper lifting techniques and safe use of all tools and equipment. 
-Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained of cared for.
-Report safety violations and hazards immediately; maintain department security. 
-Visit the competition on a regular basis and react to current industry trends. 
-Perform team member duties as required to run the department.
-Perform other duties as assigned.

Team Member Development
-Consistently communicate and model Paradise Foods vision and goals.
-Interview, select, train, evaluate, counsel and terminate Team Members in a manner which builds and sustains a high performing team, and minimizes turnover. 
-Monitor team member’s progress, and process all required paperwork.
-Provide timely, thorough, and thoughtful annual performance reviews.
-Train Team Members in proper product handling and storage, stocking, ordering, equipment operation, building displays and product rotation.
-Communicate and maintain employee safety and security standards.

Financial Management
-Manage inventory, pricing, and labor to achieve targeted gross profit margin.
-Create a labor schedule to leverage productivity within the needs of the department. 
-Achieve budgeted expense and targeted sales levels.
-Conduct scheduled inventories and submit reports. 

Merchandising/Marketing Management
-Ensure that accurate retail pricing and signage is maintained. 
-Oversee product displays and inventory according to movement, promotions and profitability.
-Continually increase the product knowledge level of you and your team.
-Sustain exceptional level of knowledge/awareness of relevant competitors and industry trends. 
-Ensure that product is cross-merchandised with other departments. 

Product and Inventory Management
-Ensure department orders for equipment, supplies and products are timely and accurate. 
-Keep all cases and shelves clean, well stocked and product rotated.
-Supervise and maintain special order system.
-Be aware of new products and their placement. 
-Maintain back stock areas and coolers.
-Analyze and control product transfers, waste and spoilage. 
-Know product availability, preparation, storage and nutritional aspects.

Regulatory Compliance
-Maintain comprehensive knowledge of, and ensure compliance with relevant regulatory rules and standards, including:   
•	Health and Sanitation, Department of Labor, OSHA, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Weights and Measures, Agriculture, FDA, HACCP.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-Must be 18 years or older and have a minimum of two years retail grocery and baking experience or the equivalent.
-Demonstrated decision-making ability and leadership skills, preferably one or more years of experience in being able to direct and supervise individuals and manage work and priorities.
-Analytical ability and proficiency in math sufficient to calculate margins, monitor profitability and manage inventory.
-Comprehensive product knowledge.
-Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to train and mentor Team Members. 
-Thorough knowledge of products, buying, pricing, merchandising, and inventory management.
-Able to visually examine and to examine by smell and products for quality and freshness.
-Excellent verbal and written communication.
-Strong organizational skills.
-Excellent merchandising skills and eye for detail.
-Workable knowledge of department financials and labor budgets.
-Ability to maintain good relationships with vendors and the community. 
-Good communicator and motivator; able to work well with others and convey enthusiasm. 
-Excellent organizational and customer service skills.
-Able to work a variety of shifts including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays.

Job Benefits

Work Environment:
-Standing for extended periods of time up to 4 hours without a break.  Work up to a maximum 8 hours per day.
-Bending and lifting not to exceed 50 pounds unassisted.
-Push and pull carts, weighing up to 100 pounds, unassisted.
-Repetitive hand and arm motion.
-Exposed to temperature extremes (due to coolers, freezer, ovens, air conditioning and outdoors).
