Background:
Located on the Charles River in the beautiful Harry Parker
Boathouse, Community Rowing Inc. (CRI) is a dynamic nonprofit
organization dedicated to the belief that the sport of rowing
provides unique opportunities for personal and community growth
through teamwork, discipline, and physical fitness. Since its
founding in 1985 CRI has become one of the largest rowing programs
in the United States, touching thousands of people each year
through rowing both on and off the water. Committed to enriching
the greater community with its mission of “Rowing for All”, CRI has
built a large number of signature outreach and community programs.
These include youth development and competitive teams, elite and
recreational rowing for para-athletes, programs for military
veterans, and adult classes that run the continuum for learn-to-row
to competitive masters. CRI is also home to the Institute for
Rowing Leadership coaching education institute (IRL), and the Row
Boston program serving youth from the Boston public schools. A $6M
organization with a full-time staff of over 30 and more than 70
part-time coaches, CRI prides itself on operational excellence and
innovative thinking.

The
Position:
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director has
overall strategic and organizational responsibility for CRI;
developing and executing on a vision to guide us into the future,
maintaining fiscally responsible practices, and fostering effective
teamwork within this multi-layered organization. The Executive
Director is also the chief ambassador for CRI, and as such is
responsible for working closely with CRI membership and the broader
community to tell our story effectively.
Responsibilities:
Ensure that the programs and services that CRI offers advance
its mission and values.
Work with the Board and senior staff to prepare comprehensive
budget and planning documents associated with short- and
medium-term implementation of long-range vision.
Lead strategic planning, implementation and evaluation of the
organization's programs and special projects.
Work with the Director of Operations to manage program staff,
monitor the day-to-day delivery of programs and services, and
oversee management of equipment and facilities.
Work closely with Development staff to create a robust
fundraising plan, and participate actively in fundraising
activities.
Foster community-building, collaboration and communication
within the boathouse and with the broader CRI community.
Establish good working relationships and collaborative
arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians, and other
organizations to help achieve goals.
Coach and mentor staff members in a positive manner to enable
leadership from within.

Strong collaborative and team-building skills, with
demonstrated ability to lead a complex organization covering
multiple domains and levels of experience
Proven ability as an effective communicator at all levels
Demonstrated fundraising ability
Demonstrated financial, operational and program design
capabilities
Commitment to reaching a broad audience; experience building
participation from under-represented or disadvantaged
communities
Love for the sport of rowing
Dedication to the leadership and management principles of
mission-driven nonprofit organizations
This is a full-time position with occasional travel required.
Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with
experience. Benefits include health insurance and
403b.
