Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Director for Administration of the Center for Global Sustainability ( CGS ) in the University of Maryland ( UMD ) School of Public Policy ( SPP ) will be responsible for all CGS business functions and operations, including the Closing the Investment Gap Initiative ( CIG ), a research project within CGS . The Director for Administration will work with research leads to ensure successful implementation of all contracting, financial, and business management aspects of projects in the CGS portfolio. It is expected that the Director of Administration will spend roughly half time on the CIG Initiative within the CGS portfolio. To execute on the responsibilities of the position, the Director of Administration will supervise, train, and mentor administrative staff as well as manage administrative engagements for the CIG Initiative and other CGS research teams with SPP and with the University more broadly. As part of the leadership team, the Director for Administration will also work closely with the CGS Director, Research Director, the CIG leadership team, and other research leads to develop a robust funding pipeline, and contribute to capacity building and continued growth of CGS . The Director of Administration position sits within CGS and reports administratively to the CGS Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• A minimum of 10 years’ experience in positions of increasing responsibility in finance, administration, and sponsored research management, as well as at least 5 years of supervisory experience.
• Experience in budget management and oversight.
• Experience in higher education administration and with research centers.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Demonstrated skill in financial reporting and strong analytical skills
• Knowledge and understanding of most relevant higher education administration policies, and state and federal regulations
• Knowledge of accounting principles
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High level attention to detail
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to cultivate positive interpersonal relationships
• High level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint

Preferences:

• Master’s degree preferred in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or CPA
• Experience using advanced Excel formulas, including pivot tables and macros, to generate reports
• Working knowledge of OMB Circulars and Uniform Guidance
• Knowledge of Foundation Grants.Gov, NSF Fastlane, NIH eRA Commons, and other online submission portals.
• Experience with Kuali Financial System, PHR , ELF , and BA4 is preferred.

Physical Demands

General office duties and tasks, may need to occasionally lift boxes with papers and other documents, up to 20lbs. This is primarily sedentary work. Repetitive typing motions involved.

Work takes place in both an office environment and in on-campus buildings; will require ability to travel throughout campus. While position is not physically demanding, incumbent must be able to perform well under strict deadlines.
