About this job

Mechanics are vital in keeping our fleet safe and operational to carry students to school and back daily. This role must be able to inspect, diagnose, and repair modern fleet vehicles and understand the critical nature of keeping the conditions of the fleet is in top working order for the safety of those who in and around our vehicles.

Primary responsibilities

 

Perform accurate Preventative Maintenance inspections in accordance with required schedule and policy.

Perform and diagnose problems and performs vehicle repairs (e.g. adjust/test steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking systems, drive trains, suspensions, power steering units, clutches, transmissions and oil, temperature, gas regulating components, adjust/test/rebuild engines etc.) and related assigned duties within qualification level, in accordance with all relevant Federal, State/Provincial and local guidelines and requirements. Test-drives vehicles to ensure repair resolved the problem.

Arranges for and obtains appropriate inspections and approval of all major repairs before vehicle is released from maintenance facility.

Maintains a safe, clean, productive and efficient work area including ensuring work area is in compliance with all relevant Federal, State/Provincial and local guidelines and requirements.

Identifies and reports any additional maintenance and/or repairs found necessary in conducting assigned repairs and maintenance including repairs and maintenance required to be performed.

Completes logs or reports on time, parts used, fuel used, mileage, and repairs and/or maintenance conducted on appropriate forms or systems.

Advises Management of unsafe maintenance conditions or practices and/or vehicle abuse.

Performs road calls and on-the-road repairs as assigned.

Perform unscheduled maintenance as needed and directed by Management

Carefully maintain and be accountable for all parts and Company equipment.

Document repairs and parts on work orders completely and accurately.

Maintain tools and workplace so that shop conditions are safe, clean and organized.

Job may require on-call duty, extended hours, or weekend work on occasion.

Qualifications

 

Minimum of 1+ years fleet mechanic repair experience required

Diagnostic, Electrical, and AC skills are required.

Technical knowledge of major vehicle systems, diesel equipment is required.

Possess the recommended minimum hand tools for a diesel technician.

Ability to use good judgment and decision-making skills to ensure safety and quality at all times.

Ability to work well with others on the team in a high-pressure environment.

A minimum age of 23 and a clean driving record and a current state issued driver’s license.

a Class B CDL with Student and Passenger endorsements & DOT medical certification preferred or;

The ability to obtain and maintain a Class B CDL with S and P endorsements & DOT medical certification immediately following completion of provided training.

Must be able to pass pre-employment background and drug screen.

High School Diploma or GED required.

Proficiency in English, both verbal and written is required.

Reliable attendance.

Ability to receive and carry out instructions to perform work.
