District Manager - Taco Bell

Overview of Role

You will have responsibility of being an "Area Leader" overseeing the people, processes, and operations of 5-7 restaurants in one area.

You will support managers, plan and set goals to help and provide tools for career development of your team, while focusing on in-store problem solving/process improvement and sets standards.
  • Being the mentor to guide operational excellence supporting national training initiatives while celebrating champions by way of recognition and motivation
  • Focal points include daily review of area and unit-specific performance targets in guest service, margin improvement and team member satisfaction, maintaining company standards in food safety, product and facility specifications, allocating limited capital budgets to meet highest priority facility needs, introducing and reinforcing new company products and initiatives, and selecting, training, developing and motivating management and their teams.
The District Manager position is a hands-on field-based position, and the DM's directly perform hands-on operational work as necessary to train new managerial team members, respond to immediate or severe customer service needs, or otherwise role model appropriate skills and behaviors in the restaurant. The DM's needs to be available to support operations leaders and respond timely as needed to account for the business operating hours. This person will also be responsible for creating and leading a company culture that is conducive to continuing the company's mission and core values.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate will have 3+ years of field restaurant multi-unit operations experience, leading high performing operations teams within a QSR environment. This person will have had direct P&L responsibility and a track record for effectively teaching and developing direct reports. S/he will also be responsible for training, developing and certifying, RGMs, AGMs, and restaurant shift leaders. S/he will be a poised motivator who is approachable and relatable by personnel at all levels within the restaurant. This candidate will have experience in successfully operating restaurants in turn-around situations, with a track record demonstrating the ability to effectively staff, train, motivate and retain the teams they build under them.

Build Management & Team Capability (People)
  • Find, hire, train, and retain the best RGMs, Assistant General Managers, and Shift Managers
  • Personally conduct orientation to set up new managers up for success
  • Build a deep bench of talented restaurant leaders through consistent use of reviews, one-on-ones, and Career Development Plans ("CDPs")
  • Impart skills every day to grow sustainable performance and develop a coaching and learning culture within their area
  • Plan restaurant visits with a purpose in order to build people capability resulting in positive traction for the team and restaurant
  • Provide regular feedback to the RGM through period 1 on 1s
  • Consistently address performance issues in a timely manner with both HR and their Market Leader
Ensure Consistent Guest Satisfaction (Guest)
  • Role model Mission & Core Values, especially when in restaurants
  • Understand how guests are viewing area restaurants through scheduled visits and detailed analysis of Brand Standards (CORE) and guest satisfaction (OSAT)
  • Master all operating standards and systems to provide coaching excellence to RGMs to ensure that each restaurant consistently delivers delight to every guest
  • Work with RGMs to identify and develop strategies and action plans to address opportunities
  • Lead product and program rollouts with RGMs to ensure success
  • Participate in period rallies, training classes, and other company events
  • Understand restaurant trade areas and competitors with the goal of being Best On Block
  • Timely address guest complaints and PRCs within 48 hours by resolving with delight
  • Lead by example with a positive and enthusiastic attitude with co-workers, subordinates, and guests
Lead Process & Discipline Around the P&L (Sales and Profits)
  • Successfully execute the company morning success routines to ensure RGM continuous improvement and engagement around financial & operational excellence
  • Analyze the financial performance of each restaurant and understand trends (daily, weekly, period, quarter, and YTD)
  • Conduct Period Business Reviews, discussing operational metrics, bench planning, and P&Ls in order to drive sales and maximize profitability
  • Conduct quarterly Role Scorecard reviews with RGMs in order to drive company strategic pillars
  • Provide ongoing constructive and complimentary feedback to the RGM, AGM, Shifts, and Team Members
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Team Leadership & Culture Building
  • Possess a strong understanding of QSR restaurant operations with the ability to mentor and grow people
  • Ability to develop and maintain a strong team through recruitment, training, bench planning, and retention initiatives
  • Implement tactical plans that ensure achievement of operations, financial, and people goals
  • Have a great culture of accountability and recognition


Operations & Financial
  • Lead the restaurant team in day-to-day field operations
  • Monitor and execute key operating and financial metrics established by the company and the restaurant Brand
  • Drive unit-level profitability by utilizing company Scorecards to manage daily operations and financial metrics
  • Visit restaurants within the area of responsibility following the ARL Period Visitation Calendar cadence to drive product quality and ensure brand excellence is maintained while following up on RGMs
  • Ensure effective communication from the top-down and bottom-up through participating in/and/or leading regular meetings (Market Level & RGM meetings)
  • Understand and ensure consistent execution of Brand Standards. Provide leadership in execution and management of Speed with Service, Food Cost, Labor, Brand Audits, Food Safety, Staffing, Training, and key operation areas
  • Review monthly P&Ls and profitability metrics with RGMs
  • Utilize company Scorecards to identify areas of opportunity in the market and each restaurant, and develop and prioritize schedule based on the needs of the business
  • Engage in restaurant audits in conjunction with restaurant management teams on store visits to calibrate on performance standards and to provide an objective basis for performance feedback
  • Ensure each restaurant maintains a bench plan based on company and brand standards
  • Meet regularly with Market Leader to review financials, scorecard and overall business performance
