Oak Plains Academy Located on 20 acres of rolling hills in a rural setting, about 45 minutes from Nashville, Tennessee, Oak Plains Academy offers psychiatric residential treatment services to children and adolescents ages 5–17, struggling with emotional and behavioral issues is seeking a Director of Human Resources. 

 

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for providing overall human resources strategy and support for aligning business objectives with employees and facility management in designated business units.  This position serves as a consultant to management on human resources related issues and employee relations.  The successful Director acts as an employee champion and change agent and acts as the primary guardian of local HR policy and steps related to progressive discipline.  The role assesses and anticipates HR related needs, and acts as a business partner to the CEO and the leadership team in developing the organization’s strategic plan, and ensuring adequate staffing as well as HR compliance with existing policy and/or statutes.  The position formulates partnerships within the designated areas of responsibility to deliver value- added service to management and employees that reflects the business objectives of the facility.

Qualifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·       Collaborates with management to develop, communicate and administer various human resources policies, guidelines and procedures, in accordance with law and government regulations.

·       Responds to employee relations issues, such as employee complaints that may include claims of harassment, discrimination, misconduct, etc. C

·       Manages and resolves employee relations issues, collaborating with appropriate members of the organizational hierarchy during complex situations where appropriate. 

·       Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.

·       Keeps employee records up to date and processes employee status changes in timely manner.

·       Complies with department record-keeping standards and reports.

·       Responsible for full cycle recruitment within designated facilities of responsibility, maintaining adequate staffing to ensure patient safety and the ability to meet organizational objectives.

·       Maintains and/or collaborates with facility management on position control plan in accordance with the facility FTE budget.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages all employees of the HR department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

·       Demonstrates professional behavior reflective of FRN’s Mission Statement, Philosophy and Values.

·       Ability to exercise good judgment and apply a common sense understanding and approach.

·       Must have excellent attention to detail.

·       Must produce work of consistently high quality; excellent written and oral communication skills.

·       Knowledgeable of the policies/practices within the company and has the ability to apply those consistently and equitably in sometimes ambiguous situations.

·       Strong knowledge of employment law and wage and hour regulations (state and federal) required.

 

Education and Experience

·       Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related degree. 

·       Minimum of 3 years of experience in human resources required

·       Minimum of 3 years of management experience required

·       Healthcare experience and/or experience with co-occurring disorders a plus

·       PHR or SPHR preferred

·       Must be proficient in Word, Excel and Power Point

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands

·       Business office hours are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Due to the nature of our business i.e. 24/7 operations, must have flexibility to work hours outside of typical business hours.

·       Must be able to read, write, sit, stand and walk.  Position requires a lot of work on the computer requiring manual dexterity, concentration and visual acuity.

·       Due to the layout of the facility and grounds, must have the ability to be physically mobile, climb stairs, traverse the campus on uneven, hilly terrain.

·        A current, valid driver’s license.

·       Limited travel may be required.
