Job Description
This position requires comprehensive knowledge & understanding of behavioral & developmental stages of children, knowledge of Maryland State Dept. of Education – Office of Child Care (MSDE-OCC) licensing requirements, the ability to manage a classroom including strong organization practices, clear & professional communication (verbal and written), excellent problem-solving skills, patience and flexibility. The desired candidate should be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required.
- Applicant must be 19 years old or older.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (Required)
- Must pass a pre-employment physical.
- Must pass a pre-employment background check.
- Must meet educational and experience requirements.
- Must maintain First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Must maintain and meet the training requirements each year.
- Must have and maintain a good driving record.
- Must be able to work flexible hours; if needed.
- Must be able to accept other job duties as assigned.
Required Course Work:
90 clock hours or equivalent of approved early childhood coursework
45 clock hours or the equivalent of approved infant/toddler coursework
OR
90 clock hours or equivalent of infant/toddler specific coursework
Other Requirements:
- Applicant must have 90 clock hours or CDA.
- Must have approved 9 clock hours in communication with staff, parents and the public.
- Must have approved training in supporting breastfeeding practices.
- Must have 3 clock hours in ADA
- Must have approved training in medication Administration
EXPERIENCE:
- Applicant must have 1 year of experience working with Infant and Toddler in a approved licensed facility
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following describes the normal duties of this position. Duties may vary or be amended, as well as others be assigned and expected.
- Promote learning and personal development through the use of books, music, singing, dancing, rhythmic activities, use of various art materials and social interaction.
- Respond to each child’s different and personal needs, abilities and culture.
- Document individual progress for education records through the use of daily sheets and tri-annual assessments.
- Create a physical environment that is welcoming, warm and engages and encourages students to interact and learn.
- Provide a safe environment by maintaining an orderly, clean and appealing classroom; eliminating or removing safety hazards; daily cleaning of bathrooms, vacuuming of carpets, mopping floors, trash removal, etc.; follow necessary sanitation procedures in diapering areas, bathrooms and at mealtimes.
- Coordinate a balance of outside and inside learning experiences. Ensure children are dressed appropriately for outside activities according to the temperature.
- Prepare the learning environment for children to learn through active exploration and interaction with adult caregivers.
- Plan and implement lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate.
- Prepare and present displays of student’s art projects and work.
- Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety of children. Reports to administration any unusual or extreme behavior which may indicate emotional, developmental or physical problems.
- Assist in learning to feed, drink, wash hands, use bathroom facilities, etc. Model good eating attitudes and provide a relaxed mealtime atmosphere.
- Promotes parent involvement and communication through keeping parents involved in child’s progress, preparing written daily sheets, conducting parent/teacher meetings when needed. Maintains confidentiality in matters pertaining to the status, development, and finances of individual children and families.
- Improve Teaching Job Knowledge by attending educational workshops and continuing education and staff meetings.
