Job Description

Job Title: Compensation Manager

Location: Corporate

Job Summary: The Compensation Manager is responsible for the research, design, strategic development and administration of all compensation plans, ensuring compliments to the Wawa's Total Rewards offer. This role is also be responsible for the leadership and oversight of the compensation team.

Principal Duties:
  • Work with the Senior Manager of Total Rewards in developing and delivering the overall strategy for compensation. Works cross-functionally with the analyst and administrators to ensure all plans are complimentary to the Total Rewards strategy.
  • Utilize analytical expertise to develop complex models and presents analysis related to pay and bonus for all corporate and store plans. Responsible for the oversite and delivery of detailed and accurate ad-hoc research and studies for People Team leadership.
  • Oversee the delivery of timely and accurate monthly and ad-hoc detailed analysis and reporting on all programs.
  • Provide analytical and project management support to compensation and company projects as needed. Produce structured reporting on each initiative as it relates to measurement, timeline and desired outcome of the projects.
  • Manage compensation projects; work with partners to implement, communicate and oversee programs in support of new initiatives or changes.
  • Assist in the oversight of the annual merit increases and the administration of the bonus processes for all store associates. Administer the annual Corporate Bonus program through manual and systematized processes.
  • Lead on analysis, benchmarking and offer for all corporate management positions, with oversite of all compensation offers for the company; primary working partner for Talent Acquisition and People Team Business Partner.
  • Provide subject matter expertise related to Workday and compensation programs to optimize all processes. Identify opportunities to change business processes, integrating them into the technology and facilitating their implementation, develop reporting, provide analyses; work cross-functionally to provide system/process documentation and training.
  • Participate in the annual salary surveys and market analysis; oversight of grading processes for all positions.
  • Monitor, evaluate and analyze compensation and bonus plans within stores. Define, implement and oversee the support processes associated with the application of all variable pay plans within Store Operations. Review compensation programs for effectiveness and efficiencies; ensure programs comply with legal requirements and are cost effective.
  • Participate in market competitive analysis of current compensation programs. Assist in the preparation materials for the Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors and Proxy. Assist in the annual executive compensation grants, communications and processes.
  • Work cross functionally with various departments in the Company including Legal, Finance, and Payroll to ensure proper execution, budgeting and government compliance of all plans.
  • Work cross-functionally with People Team operations services to deliver and support the full compensation offer.
  • Ensure all plans adhere to federal regulations (ERISA, IRS, DOL) governing the administration of employee benefit plans. Maintain current knowledge of environmental, legal and regulatory factors that impact compensation practices. Keep current on trends in total reward strategies. Monitor pending legislation and prepare analysis on impact to Wawa; prepare recommendations on changes needed to existing programs and policies based on pending regulation.
  • Oversee all aspects of daily work of the Compensation team. Provide overall direction and support for direct report(s) and monitor and assess individual work in accordance with high standards of excellence. Provide feedback, coaching, support, opportunities for development, complete performance appraisals, take corrective action when appropriate, and participate in hiring decisions.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a business discipline or equivalent work experience preferred
  • CCP preferred
  • Five or more years of compensation experience, executive compensation experience a plus
  • Three or more years of supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of human resource and accounting laws that impact Compensation (FLSA, SEC Regulations, Sarbanes-Oxley Act, etc)
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong, proven analytical abilities and problem solving skills with limited information
