Department Overview

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E’s gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response. 

 

Position Summary

Provide engineering, technical support, equipment design, and project management for LNG/CNG assets including CNG stations, natural gas generators, and mobile compressions. Identifies and supports high priority work to reduce risks, improves processes and supports their implementation, improve equipment performance and reliability, perform condition assessments, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment problems. Serve as liaison between PG&E project teams and LNG/CNG team to provide operational support which can include but not limited to pipeline cross compression, flaring, load generation, and odorization. 

  • This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.
  • Position location is flexible to all PG&E service territories. 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Solves complex problems by developing and utilizing new and innovative engineering design and technical solutions
  • Leads or supports teams from multiple organizations and/or vendors for system including but not limited to programmatic or complex repairs, investigations, or implementation of assigned program work for service territory.  
  • Leads or supports process improvement initiatives for assigned program management and monitors performance of equipment or work. Oversees or supports process and procedure development, implementation, communications, and training for new programs or changes to existing programs. 
  • Expands knowledge in other areas of specialty or discipline, developing breadth or further develops expertise and specialization on one area
  • Evaluates methodologies, best practices, tools, processes, procedures and technology assessing potential fit, benefits, and impacts for assigned workstreams
  • Presents engineering research, findings solutions and recommendations to supervisors
  • Provide training, guidance, instruction and coaching to other Engineers
  • Interprets and applies applicable codes and regulations, policies and procedures
  • Applies knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices in a specific discipline, field or area of expertise to resolve complex problems
  • Completes assignments of broad scope and complexity with few precedents or standards and assignments that require integration of information from a variety of sources

 

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

 

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Job-related experience, 5 years
  • CA Class C License, or equivalent
  • Ability to travel up to 40 percent of working time

 

Desired:

 

  • Extensive knowledge of 49 CFR 192 specifically for transmission pipelines.
  • Experience in PLC programming/electrical controls. 
  • Experience in gas odorization and its technology/equipment. 
  • Experience in natural gas specifically high pressure systems.
  • PE-(Professional Engineer) License
