Northrop Grumman Space Systems is searching for an experienced Engineer Safety Engineer Software (SW) to join the Launch Vehicles business unit to support the Next Generation Interceptor Program in Chandler, AZ. The Engineer Safety Engineer SW utilizes the System engineering processes and tools to drive the overall system design to meet Safety requirements to minimize the risk inherent in launch vehicle operations while maximizing mission reliability and success. At Northrop Grumman Launch Vehicles, System Safety Engineering is involved in all phases of a program life cycle, from proposal generation to launch operations. System Safety Engineering interfaces with the various Ranges to ensure that our launch vehicles meet safety requirements while providing high reliability to the customer. The Engineer Safety Engineer SW is responsible for working with a System Safety Engineering team that develops key range safety deliverables, and support system safety activities including ground safety, range safety and flight safety throughout the Next Generation Interceptor Program life cycle. The Software Safety Engineering effort includes interacting as part of a multi-disciplined engineering team to develop the launch system architecture and constituent elements for new and existing flight programs, as well as new business concepts and proposals. This position may include launch campaign support at remote launch sites both domestic and international. Responsibilities: Work with a small team of System Safety engineers in defining, implementing and verifying SW Safety requirements to ensure that the inherent risks are mitigated within the software code. Responsibilities: Identify the SW portions of systems for safety and mission critical functionality. Identify and define requirements, design, and test procedures that will ensure the system will perform as expected. Perform detailed evaluation of SW systems to verify that the SW requirements are correctly implemented in the design and code and that the resulting code does not contain embedded safety hazards. Document analysis performed and present findings to peers, customers, and management. The candidate should possess strong technical problem solving, written and verbal communication skills to generate and document system level launch vehicle requirements, perform vehicle performance assessments and participate in system level verification/data review activities The candidate should be willing to occasionally work during odd hours (nights/weekends) and occasionally longer than normal (>40 hrs/wk) to meet deadlines The candidate should possess a strong resolve to drive tasks to completion autonomously and possess demonstrated mentoring/training skills. Some travel may be required to support customer milestone meetings and perform testing and safety analyses Basic Qualifications: - 2 Years with Bachelors in Science; 0 Years with Masters; or in lieu of degree must have 6 years of directly related sys safety range experience is required. - U.S. Citizenship is required - The ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance is required. - Experience with software architecture, design or development experience. - Object Oriented programming experience. - Demonstrate that you can perform analysis activities including problem solving and identifying potential types of anomalies associated with software systems. - Strong interpersonal communication skills required to communicate with all levels from internal employees to customers. Preferred Qualifications: - Active DoD Secret Security Clearance is preferred - C/C++ programming experience - Software Safety experience - Experience in launch vehicle system integration, testing and evaluation - Experience in presenting in front of customers and DoD / Government personnel - Experience using Requirements Management Tools such as DOORS. - Experience with the software development lifecycle. - Experience with embedded real time software. - Ideal candidate would have formal training or experience in one or more of the following subjects: - Experience with UML / SysML as applied to software architecture, design or development.
