We are searching for a Family Care Specialist to work within our largest trauma hospitals as well as other hospitals in the Mississippi area as a vital member of the healthcare team providing care to families as they are grieving. The applicant should possess experience working with a hospital/medical center in nursing, counseling, bereavement care, ministry, or social work. Outstanding written, verbal, and non-verbal communication with families and hospital staff is a must. This job requires regular on-call responsibilities, frequent travel, and excellent proficiency with medical personnel/hospital systems and protocols to ensure all donor potential is maximized. Drug testing and background check performed prior to hiring. Starting salary is based upon experience; great benefits are offered. Ensures documentation is completed in accordance with MORA and regulatory standards.

• Works autonomously and takes decisive action in urgent situations to minimize adverse events that may negatively impact authorization.

What You Will Do

• Rotate in a 24-hour on-call schedule 
• Provide rapid on-site response to hospitals throughout our service area 
• Work with families experiencing acute grief, crisis, and trauma 
• Educate a potential donor’s Next-of-Kin (NOK) about donation options, including informing NOK about donor designation (registry) 
• Travel by personal automobile in MORA’s donation service area 
• Complete authorization paperwork with a patient’s NOK, disclosing and reviewing the donation process 
• Conduct a medical and social history questionnaire related to the donor with an appropriate, knowledgeable party 
• Ensure effective communication and strong collaboration with donor families, hospital personnel, physicians, related donation agencies, and other MORA staff 
• Work alongside MORA and hospital staff to ensure families are provided with support and resources related to loss, grief, and trauma 
• Participate in meetings, training, and professional performance reviews outside of work shifts 
   

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in an allied health field.
• A minimum of three years experience in counseling, bereavement care, ministry, or social work
• Strong clinical assessment skills preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to persist in situations dealing with intense emotions and families in crisis.
• Excellent ability to communicate by demonstrating interpersonal and listening skills.
