The Boston Operations (Norwood, MA office) has an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Engineer. Depending on the level of the candidate's skill and experience this position may be eligible for alignment to Consultant Engineer I, II or Senior Consultant Engineer. Varying levels of experience and qualifications will be considered. 

 

This is a position for a home-based Resident Consultant Engineer serving the territory of Upstate New York and New England.  Candidates should be residing in the Albany to Syracuse, NY area or able to relocate to that general area.

Responsibilities:

Boiler & Machinery (B&M) Hazards Consultant Engineers will interact with FM Global clients in a variety of industries.  Experienced engineers will consult with clients to understand their business operations, production processes, asset integrity programs, and supporting human element programs, to protect their facilities against equipment breakdown, utility service interruption, business interruption and Instrumentation and control system exposures.  As a resident Consultant Engineer, you will develop strong client relationships with clients to advise on risks associated with their business as well as develop and implement risk improvement strategies.

 

A B&M Consultant Engineer at FM Global is expected to handle field, office and project work for clients within a wide range of industries (including semiconductor, power generation, forest products, molten materials and mining, chemical, and a variety of other manufacturing and non-manufacturing occupancies). Small to medium sized locations will be expected to be handled with minimal supervision. Larger locations and more challenging occupancies will be assigned based upon skill level. These products and services are expected to be delivered in a timely and efficient manner. The individual will also be expected to achieve risk improvement by ensuring client understanding, consulting to reach client agreements, and executing follow-ups until completion.

 

You should be willing to operate from a home office and will travel to clients' facilities daily; overnight travel is expected approximately 30% of the time.

 

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Evaluate the integrity and reliability of client production and support systems. Evaluate equipment and identify hazards and deficiencies to deliver focused risk improvement solutions and reduce facility risk
  • Utilize FM Global operating standards, data sheets and guides to provide risk guidance and implement best practices
  • Prepare engineering reports and loss expectancies to support risk improvement
  • Collaborate with Operations Engineering, Client Services, Account Management and Underwriting on equipment hazard recommendations
  • Engineers will work from a home office, must be able to manage their time and work independently with minimal supervision

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred, other Engineering degrees will be considered.
  • Semiconductor background/experience preferred
  • Must possess knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment and systems such as rotating equipment, boilers, generators, system interrelationships and knowledge of safety devices
  • Demonstrated experience to understand basic machinery and equipment along with hands on exposure.
  • Minimum of 2 years industry experience as an engineer
  • Candidates will possess strong verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in MS Office products is required
  • Candidates must be analytical, organized and have good problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Effective negotiation and “sales” skills.
  • Efficient time management ability with minimal supervision.
  • Effective in working with other team members to support clients and achieve objectives
  • A valid driver’s license is required, a company car is provided
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds or 11.34 kilograms
  • Able to climb ladders
