GBMC is hiring for a Cancer Registry Administrator who will:

  • Performs all the duties of the Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) and supervises workflow in the Cancer Registry, coordinating the activities of the Cancer Committee under the direction of the physician chairperson.
  • Serves on the Cancer Committee, taking minutes and advising the Committee on the interpretation of Commission on Cancer (CoC) standards.
  • Maintains compliance with the CoC standards for accredited cancer programs.
  • Coordinates the CoC Cancer Program Accreditation Survey, including preparation of the annual Survey Application Record (SAR). Writes policies and procedures for the Cancer Program and ensures that the Procedure Manual meets CoC standards.
  • Assists and collaborates with clinicians, epidemiologists and other researchers on cancer related studies and research projects; indicates the strengths and limitations of Cancer Registry data; provides data analysis and guidance in the appropriate use of Registry data.
  • Provides Cancer Registry data to hospital administration for strategic planning.
  • Submits hospital data monthly to the Maryland Cancer Registry (MCR) and annually to the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB). Coordinates quality assurance activities and educates registry staff.
  • Completes annual performance evaluations.
  • Develops the annual report, consisting of multiple pages of illustrations, stories and data to educate the community on the excellent cancer program at GBMC.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences or Related Field

Experience

Two years experience as certified tumor registrar required.

Skills

  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology and staging necessary to read and interpret medical information in order to abstract, code and classify malignant cases according to Commission on Cancer (CoC) standards.
  • Knowledge of site specific treatment guidelines, including the coding of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and hormone treatments necessary to abstract and perform quality assurance activities.
  • Maintains knowledge and guidance of all the standards established by the American College of Surgeons, National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, and Quality Oncology Practice
  • Initiative in order to secure and maintain accreditation of the Cancer Program at GBMC.
  • Knowledge of Facility Oncology Registry Data Standards (FORDS) necessary to coordinate quality assurance activities on the registry database to ensure complete and accurate data.
  • Provides timely and accurate data submission to the Maryland Cancer Registry on a monthly basis, to the Rapid Quality Reporting System monthly, and to the National Cancer Data Base annually and as requested.
  • Ability to use all necessary hospital systems and the Cancer Registry data collection software, and to train new employees on their use.
  • Ability to supervise and educate Cancer Registry staff as part of the quality assurance program.
  • Ability to write policies and procedures for the Cancer Program.
  • Ability to use Word, Excel and the Internet to produce the annual report, statistical reports, graphs and other benchmarking studies.
  • Knowledge of statistics, including comprehension and presentation of all National Cancer Data Base Reporting Tools.

Licensures, Certifications

* Certification by the National Cancer Registrars Association required.

temperature extremes and the like.
