Responsibilities

The Hospital Administrator (HA) serves as the senior administrative ocer for the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) and as an executive liaison to the SVM and other campus units. Advises higher level management on a wide range of operational, nancial, staff personnel, programmatic, facilities, compliance, and academic support issues. Supervises all department managers and general operations to achieve broadly stated goals with an organization wide impact. Together with the Chief Veterinary Medical Ocer (CVMO) has primary responsibility for achieving organizational goals and objectives for the VMTH. Responsible for complex planning, analysis, policy development, and managing an annual budget of approximately $65 million, including approximately $46 million in client revenues. Develops and implements operational policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in business administration or related eld or equivalent training and experience
  • Seven years of management experience in veterinary or medical administration or a related eld
  • Experience in strategic and operational planning, policy development, scal analysis and management, capital planning, facilities, marketing, and information technology
  • Experience in the systematic analysis of business, operational and personnel processes and practices, including the skills to evaluate information and circumstances; identify key issues and stakeholders in complex situations; consider cause and effect relationships in decision making; evaluate the short-term and long-term implications of various options; and develop and implement strategies to improve processes and systems in order to achieve measurable goals and objectives that support the organization's mission and objectives
  • Experience in using the principles of cost accounting and marketing, and an understanding of the relationship between the educational mission and the business operation of the organization
  • Skill to integrate modern business principles and practices with educational, patient care, client service, and referring veterinarian service priorities of a complex veterinary teaching hospital operated within the context of shared governance
  • Skill to apply the principles and practices of human resource management; change management; organizational development; multiculturalism and diversity; and to effectively and ethically manage a complex academic and business unit; supervisory and team building skills to recruit, train, evaluate, motivate, retain, and provide career advancement for staff personnel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in providing administrative support for professional degree education and clinical service
  • Experience in veterinary medicine or a veterinary related discipline
