The Senior Buying Manager for Owned and Operated Hardlines will report to the Director of Merchandising and Buying. You will oversee a team of Buying Managers to lead the assortment strategies to enhance storytelling and support channel specific needs. Manage multiple categories and brands across all consumer segmentations and Channels. You will have a detailed knowledge of the brand landscape across multiple product categories, intimate understanding of consumer centric Omni-Chanel businesses, and an overall sense of the marketplace globally. You will critically evaluate the assortment and understand brand and item performance, while applying hindsight and learnings to inform future seasonal direction. You will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the connection between financial goals and related merchandise objectives.

Responsibilities :
Pre season
  • Advocate for regional needs by providing a comprehensive quarterly product brief to the O&O strategy organization. Include regional commercial needs for the best expression of our brands and experience to build equity in shopDisney, Flagships and marketplaces.
  • Be the expert on the regional landscape - participate in trend shopping and stay up to date with macro, micro, and consumer trends, across all channels and markets.
  • Build assortment strategies for your categories that meet regional needs for revenue, margin and audience growth. Manage assortment breadth, depth and refresh rates.
  • Deliver price value ratio using market data within assortment plans.
  • Demonstrate financial knowledge at category level to provide strategies for growth
  • Ensure Planning team alignment on rankings, retails and buys
  • Develop Commercial Strategy
  • Foster the communication to the eCommerce Site Merchandising and omni-channel Marketing teams on merchandise initiatives to meet revenue, site and buzz-worthiness goals.
  • Communicate product flow cadence, including newness and flow strategy from launch thru exit.
  • Establish relationships with relevant vendors, regional partners to provide appropriate assortments to supplement the global assortment
  • Represent the region to O&O, GPC and commercial and marketing partners to lead the commercial strategy for your categories.
In Season
  • Work with commercial teams to manage in season performance to maximize results driving revenue and margin along with audience acquisition and conversion targets.
  • Analyze our performance by item, business and franchise; manage product lifecycle, test new strategies where needed to fuel the business.
  • Lead teams to react to in-season performance/trends and hindsight performance and learnings to inform future seasons.
  • Lead strategy with cross functional partners for assortment and site execution.
  • Set weekly shopDisney product flow strategy, brand features, curations, emails
  • Oversee direct reports selections for weekly product features for assigned categories
  • Attend Monthly SKU Handovers communicating big picture strategies.
  • Provide recommendations for lifestyle photo shoot needs
  • Partner with site merchandising to ensure assortment discovery (shopDisney)
  • Council team on rework direction for non-compliant PO's, as needed
  • Develop teams and bench to support organizational growth needs
  • Lead a team of Buyers and their direct reports.
  • Lead by example; create a culture that fosters teamwork, and new ideas.
  • Be the role model within the company by coaching and teaching team members and to identify and address gaps in organizational competencies with relevant feedback.
  • Assess the value and contribution to the business and adjust to changing needs.
  • Encourage team members to operate with curiosity and suggest ways of working efficiencies.


Basic Qualifications :
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in Product Merchandising, specialty retail & product assortment strategy.
  • Experience leading and developing teams
  • Experience curating a global product line
  • Experience in Merchandising for vertical specialty retail environment
  • Experience in Identifying market trends to maximize value creation throughout the trend cycle.
  • Working knowledge of the omni-channel marketplace globally
  • Experience working, and thriving, in a highly matrixed company structure
  • Leadership and talent development abilities and a collaborative management style
  • Sense of being a Team Player – The ability to foster partnerships throughout the departments within The Walt Disney Corporation


Required Education :
  • Bachelor's Degree in Merchandising, Business, Finance, Retail Management or related fields
