Job Description
Position uses a variety of surveying instruments to support a survey crew in their daily operations under the direction of a Party Chief. Typical survey projects are generally local and include boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, topographic surveys, limited construction staking, and horizontal/ vertical control surveys. Occasional overnight travel for out-of-town projects.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for the operation, checking, and basic field adjustments of survey equipment. E.g. tripods, tribrachs, levels, total stations, GNSS receivers, data radios/modems
Load and unload surveying supplies and equipment in the vehicle
Utilize survey controllers and software to collect geospatial data and perform survey computations
Read and interpret various types of maps and plans
Complete neat and orderly field notes for survey operations
Keeps Party Chief informed of problems and progress
Clean and maintain survey equipment, tools, and vehicle
Follow company safety procedures for survey operation
Qualifications
High School graduate or GED equivalent
Minimum 1-year experience in a similar role
Ability to read, interpret, and analyze construction plans, plats, surveys, etc.
Prior experience using total stations, levels, GPS receivers
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check, and strength & flexibility test
Valid driver’s license
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk, talk, or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Employees may be asked to walk on uneven surfaces, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, hike up and down steep slopes carrying up to 50 pounds of survey equipment, bend, squat, dig monument holes, pound in stakes and rebar monuments, carry and use brush cutting equipment, drive a four-wheeler, climb stairs and/or sit for extended periods of time. The employee must adhere to the company’s policies, safety plan, and project safety plan.
