This job could be full time or part time.

Summary  

Under the supervision of the Machine Shop Supervisor installs and maintains new equipment; constructs newly designed equipment, repairs factory equipment and machine tools, using a variety of typical maintenance shop machine tools, working from blueprints, sketches, service manual instructions, and verbal instructions for the purpose of maintaining safe and efficient equipment throughout the plant. This position reports directly to the Machine Shop Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·        Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools determining and using proper speeds and feeds to perform complex as well as general machining in order to produce replacement parts, as required; turning lathers, up to 36” swing, shapers, universal milling machines with vertical heads, single spindle upright drill presses, radial drill press, power saws, arbor presses, bench grinders, etc.

·        Selects materials, cutting tools, attachments; plans operation sequence, and does layout work using a wide variety of machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments to machine parts to specified tolerances (to within. 001”).            Machines external and internal threads.

·        Fabricates jigs and fixtures and gauges, as required. Is required to use shop mathematics in order to meet required work specifications. Occasionally makes sketches.

·        Diagnoses and remedies malfunctions by dismantling, overhauling, and reassembling production machines, such as centrifugal pumps, vacuum pumps, air compressors, pinion and gear systems, hydraulic systems, etc.

·        Does a variety of skilled fitting alignment and bench assembly work.

·        Diagnoses, corrects and suggests alternate or improved maintenance procedures in emergency breakdown repair, or routine overhaul. Helps to direct and also participates in the activities of Shift Mechanic engaged in repair work, installation or construction of new equipment.

·        Operates forklift, tow truck, and aerial lift as needed.

·        Help to instruct and train apprentices in performing the more complicated repairs.

·        Makes out repair work report on work order upon completion of job.

·        Work assignment is on rotating shift basis and is subject to 24 hour call.

·        Is required to perform maintenance work.

·        Maintains work area and equipment in clean and orderly condition.

·        Performs other duties as directed.

Education and/or Experience

?  High School Diploma

?  Experience in a manufacturing or factory environment

?  4+ years of related experience

?  Fork Lift Certification a plus but not required

Able to interpret written and oral instructions, and to read, analyze and interpret, operating & maintenance instructions or regulations

Work Environment

·        While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, but safety equipment is provided.

·        The noise level in some areas of the work environment may be loud, but safety equipment is provided.

·        Must work in close quarters, from scaffolds and ladders at times.

·        Exposed to an appreciable amount of unpleasant work conditions; heat, dirt, dust, oil, wetness and other variables.       

·        Exposed to probability of electrical shock, falls, cuts and abrasion.
