Job Title: Paint Line Tech Specialist                                         

Supervisor: Plant Engineering

Responsible for preparing, processing, testing, and evaluating laboratory samples as per established procedures to meet customer requirements. 

Ensure that IEC maintains its certification as an applicator from our paint supplier(s).

Provides problem identification, tracking, verification and validation of the problem. Implements proper corrective action to address root cause.

Provides guidance on topics related to test procedures, process control and status of paint lab performance testing results.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Operate and maintain lab equipment to perform a variety of routine materials engineering tests while maintaining good quality records.
• Perform a wide variety of tasks - report any issues that may affect quality and suggest solutions.
• Perform coating characterization tests as per established SOPs and internal procedures.
• Work with Plant Specialist & cycle count inventory to ensure accuracy. Report on adjustments and resolve discrepancies.

·         Assist in taking monthly and year end warehouse inventories.

• Complete lab work queues to ensure that lab tests are completed on time. Maintain workflow and adjust priorities based on urgent requests.
• Support and implement continuous improvement initiatives for Lab Operation and be flexible.
• Maintains operation of all test equipment, mechanical and chemical to ensure that painted parts are tested appropriately and are assessed in comparison to all AAMA specifications.
• Responsible for failure analysis process by preparing parts for test, ordering supplies, maintaining equipment, executing standard paint tests to ensure compliance to quality standards.
• Explain testing and process in Lab Tours.
• Maintain work area and equipment in good working conditions
• Data entry, preparation of test specimens, setup of testing equipment and running tests per documented lab procedures.
• Foster open communication and a team-thinking attitude. Being organized will help in keeping the work area in a productive manner at all times.
• Adhere to a strict schedule as certain responsibilities within this position are time sensitive.
• Demonstrate ability to solve problems, learn new topics, and develop/organize new projects using foundational training and resources with limited oversight.
• Ensure that high quality of work, housekeeping and hygiene standards are maintained.
• Pay attention to detail making sure: Pre-Treatment; Primer; Paint; Drying and Cure Ovens all running to set process to ensure adhesion.
• When testing must be 100% accurate. Use basic arithmetic to compute and calculate small equations of liquid measurements and volume.
•  Closes the loop at the end of each working day - must maintain lab notebook and all report / testing forms in pristine condition. (Archive accordingly in the lab)

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITY: 

Work in a group environment under the supervision of Engineering and Paint and Chemical Supplier to drive and improve paint line lab and the paint process.

Use good judgment, and ethical decision-making abilities when reporting data obtained during laboratory testing.

Be a self-starter and well organized. Set daily and weekly priorities taking the lead effectively. Implementing Paint line PM Program in a safe, efficient, and cost effective manner.

Attendance and Dependability:

Report to work at the scheduled time.  Be available when needed (daily and when we need rush orders).  Weekends may be required. 

Complete work in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner.  Must be conscientious about assignments.

Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all individuals inside and outside IEC.

Work cohesively with everyone at IEC. Assist in maintaining a workplace culture that engages and motivates associates.

Development Opportunity Requirements:

·         Communicate with Plant Specialist Support all activities in the paint Department, making sure from start to finish he Painting Process meets all AAMA Specification.

·         Within a couple years, possible to advance to Paint Line Process Engineer with full responsibility for the operation of the paint Department.
