The George Mason University, Department of Global and Community Health invites applications for a full-time term faculty member (9-month, non-tenure track, state-funded) at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor starting August 2023. About the Department:
Founded in 2006, the Department of Global and Community Health offers CEPH accredited programs at the graduate and undergraduate level, including a BS in Community Health with concentrations in Clinical Science, Global Health, and Nutrition and Physical Activity; a MS in Global Health; a MPH with concentrations in Community Health Promotion, Epidemiology, Food Security and Nutrition, Global Health, Health Policy, Health Equity and Social Justice, and Public Health Practice; and a PhD in Public Health with concentrations in Epidemiology, and Social and Behavioral Sciences. The Department is located within the College of Public Health. The College of Public Health is a multi-disciplinary college focused on degrees that support the public's health and well-being.

The department includes 22 full-time faculty members with backgrounds in biostatistics, environmental health, epidemiology, global health, and social and behavioral sciences who are committed to the ideals of health equity and social justice among underserved domestic and global populations.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses, participating in university governance, professional and public service, and performing related assignments such as supervising senior projects, student internships, and practicums. Annual appointments will depend on budget and performance. The selected candidate for this position will be expected to teach four courses per semester in a variety of public health areas based on how their area of expertise aligns with department needs. Courses may include, but are not limited to, the following subjects: epidemiology, biostatistics, global health, public health foundations, health behavior theories, public health promotion methods, planning and evaluation, public health leadership and advocacy, and social determinants of health. The incumbent may be asked to teach courses in person and/or in distance format depending on department needs.
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of all requirements for an earned doctoral degree in a public health discipline or closely related field at the time of appointment;
- Record of effective teaching as the instructor of record in public health or a closely related discipline online, hybrid, and/or in person formats;
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively with a diverse student population; and
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MPH or a MSPH from a CEPH accredited school or program of public health;
- Prior experience teaching in a college or university setting; and
- Prior experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students.
