A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A VETERINARY ASSISTANT
As a Veterinary Assistant, you are the primary support for our vet technicians. Your excellent communication skills serve you well as you discuss topics such as vaccination protocols, financial estimates, and aftercare instructions with clients. Professional and cooperative, you assist our techs by restraining pets, performing physical assessments, and trimming nails.
A life-long learner, you're eager for opportunities to grow, and you feel proud as you are entrusted with new responsibilities. You competently set up laboratory procedures such as heartworm checks, urinalysis, and fungal cultures. A team player, you gladly lighten the load for our techs by taking radiographs, administering subcutaneous fluids, and performing blood draws. Organized and efficient, you maintain files of lab test results and ensure that every result is properly recorded.
When you see a task that needs to be done, you're quick to jump in to help! You understand the importance of having a clean and orderly clinic, and you make sure the exam rooms and treatment areas are always well-stocked and hygienic. Our veterinarians appreciate how you keep the operating room prepared for surgeries and properly care for equipment such as IV pumps and blood machines. You feel great knowing that our staff and clients value your efforts and that you help animals live healthier lives!
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A VETERINARY ASSISTANT
High school diploma OR equivalent
Animal care experience
18+ years of age
Ability to bend and stand throughout the shift
Ability to lift 40 lbs
Willingness to be exposed to irritants that accompany pet care, including odors, loud noises, feces, animal scratches, etc.
A college degree is preferred but not required. Are you coachable and able to take direction well? Do you conduct yourself professionally and take accountability for your actions? WORK SCHEDULE FOR A VET ASSISTANT
This job has a schedule of Monday - Friday, part-time/full-time with no weekends and flexibility as to hours and day.
