Our busy, highly respected Internal Medicine office is seeking an enthusiastic, hard-working individual to join our dedicated team! This clinical position is primarily responsible for providing clinical support to the Clinicians/Practitioners of Annapolis Internal Medicine, LLC. The roles and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Greet patients in a friendly and professional manner
  • Accurately and promptly obtain and record vitals/intake functions. This includes in-person, as well as virtual appointments.
  • Completes all needed pre-visit screening questionnaires and post-visit teaching and documentation.
  • Expected shift productivity (ESP): 16 patients/8-hour shift or 20 patients/10-hour shift. Applicable incentives for work above the ESP will be detailed in the Operations Manual unless specified otherwise. ESP does not include tele-visits. Lower ESP for staff with administrative duties as detailed separately with unique job description.
  • Function as a part of the clinical team with the aim of equalizing shift productivity and general duties detailed already for all staff regardless of the clinician with whom the clinical team member is working on a routine or intermittent basis.
  • Assist the providers with various procedures such as suture placement and removal, biopsies, skin tag removals, draining cysts and gynecological exams.
  • Perform EKGs and Holter monitor placement and order event monitors
  • Perform spirometry testing and calibration, ear lavage, wound care, injections (IM, subcutaneous, ID), capillary punctures, nasal and throat swabs for culture, collect urine specimens and perform urinalysis via dipstick, nebulizer treatments, administer oral medications when necessary
  • Ensure proper labeling, handling, and disposal of all specimens
  • Assist handicapped/ill patients to their specific destination (lavatory, laboratory, or vehicle)
  • Provide emotional support to patients when needed
  • Clean, stock, and complete room cleaning sheets in each exam room at the end of every shift.
  • Patient education: self-administration of injectable medications, glucometer use, etc.
  • Create orders within our EMR and send to the provider for sign-off (refills, injections, and labs)
  • Prepare correspondence under the direction of the provider
  • Open and sort physician mail daily
  • Answer phones, triage calls, initiate and respond to patient cases, schedule appointments as needed
  • athenaOne EMR support for the provider by monitoring buckets for all main office and/or walk-in clinic related messages
  • Use EMR proficiently and remain up to date on all functions of the EMR system for the clinical setting by use of the learning portal and other various continuing education through Athena
  • Scan or copy medical records (paper or disk) as needed
  • Sign in to office email and calendar daily
  • Accommodate rotating shifts and schedule changes as they may arise.
  • Saturday coverage in the AIM clinic (8:00am-2:00pm) is required and scheduled on a rotating basis. There would be approximately 4-5 Saturday shifts per year.
  • Acute Care Clinic coverage when staffing issues arise. If needed, you will be notified by your supervisor of the change as soon as possible.
  • Maintain required certifications, and training and stay up-to-date with athenaOne modules and releases.

  • Physical ability - This job requires standing for long periods of time. Minimal sitting. Bending, stooping, lifting (typically no more than 50lbs but the ability to lift 100+ lbs may be required when assisting patients) moderate amount of typing on a keyboard, staring/reading from a computer monitor for an extended amount of time per day.
  • Language skills - Ability to read and comprehend instructions such as short correspondence and memos; the ability to write and type correspondence that is clear and concise.
  • Mathematical skills - Ability to calculate figures, amounts, and conversions for injections
  • Computer skills - The individual should have basic computer skills and the ability to perform basic troubleshooting.
  • Must be able to multitask and conform to the changes and the needs of the practice.
Requirements/certifications

To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, or ability required:

  • CMA, RMA, CMAA, CNA, or equivalent is desired but not required. We are willing to train the right individual(s).
  • CPR certification
  • Hepatitis B vaccination (or signature on declination form)
  • Yellow fever vaccine administration certificate (required to administer this vaccine) preferred
