Description

Summary: Installs fixed radio, BDA/DAS and wireless communications equipment consistent with manufacturer and company guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Climbs towers and installs cable and antenna consistent with project requirements and according to R56 installation and safety standards. May also deconstruct installation sites as required.
  • Installation, testing, maintenance and repair of commercial FM two-way radio systems and equipment including low band VHF, VHF, UHF and Motorola SmartZone 800 MHz trunked simulcast radio networks, microprocessor-controlled radio transceivers, simulcast site controllers, antenna systems, multi-site microwave links, dispatch consoles, and associated telecommunications and network equipment which impact government and public safety operations for external and internal customers.

  • Manages inventory and assembles parts prior to installation work to ensure correct parts are available.

  • Works with system engineer and technical staff to optimize site following installation to ensure system or equipment function properly.

  • Determines customer requirements to assist in developing labor and cost estimates for quotes.

  • Completes job tickets, sales orders, and other required work documents.

  • Maintains positive customer relations.

  • Trains junior installers as needed.

  • Communicate with internal personnel, outside service personnel, equipment vendors and other government agencies to coordinate and provide information pertaining to service requests, work orders, equipment evaluations, technical advice and complaints regarding radio system and television interference.
  • Maintain and install DC Power Distribution Panels, and perform preventive maintenance on UPS systems and DC Power Plants. Install and maintain Analog and digital telemetry, such as Channel Banks, T-1 circuits and other digital and analog circuitry.
  • Analyze and resolve performance and failure issues related to OSI Layers 1-2 using network testing and management resources.
  • Perform related telecommunication duties commensurate with classification level.

Experience

  • The successful candidate will have experience with: Land Mobile Radio (LMR), including trunking, microwave networks, cellular technology, Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), and data networking.
  • Two (2) + years' experience in installation, maintenance and repair of commercial LMR and related electronic equipment and systems.
  • Specialized knowledge of basic electronics theory, circuit design, antenna systems, and FCC Rules and Regulations is required for installation, operation, maintenance and repair of various types of communications and electronic equipment.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in diagnosing and resolving technical problems and address multiple issues simultaneously.
  • Solid analytical, written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate at both the technical and inter-team level.
  • Ability to work as a productive team member; share knowledge, and document work in a collaborative effort to resolve problems and optimize the network.
  • Strong customer service skills and a demonstrated ability to work with both internal and external customers at all levels in a professional and supportive manner.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced technology environment; to work as a productive member of a professional team, as well as demonstrate initiative; ability to work under pressure, multi-task and rapidly adjust priorities.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations. Ability to adapt to rapidly changing technology.
  • Ability to safely lift and move 50 pounds is required.
