PURPOSE:

The Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineer reports directly to the Reliability Lead and provides the necessary support to accomplish the plant's Reliability and Mechanical Integrity objectives in the safest, economical and technically feasible manner. This position is responsible for providing engineering services to optimize equipment life and plant profitability.

KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure all work is performed safely and in accordance with all Calumet procedures and specifications.
  • Participate in and lead reliability efforts to resolve equipment design, operational, and maintenance issues.
  • Participate in audits to measure the effectiveness of reliability related activities such as equipment repairs, part quality, and failure investigation/root cause analysis processes.
  • Assist the Maintenance Department in developing procedures.
  • Advise engineering on new capital designs and installations to ensure that equipment reliability, operability, and maintainability are preserved.
  • Review fixed equipment specifications and standards and develop recommendations for reliability improvement.
  • Assist in projects to support overall plant reliability.
  • Assist project engineers in cost estimates for projects.
  • Support Turnaround planning and implementation.
  • Knowledgeable on piping codes, equipment codes, state codes, metallurgy types, corrosion mechanisms, and material selection.
  • Work with Corporate resources/SMEs to improve the reliability tools and methods utilized in increasing plant reliability.
  • Assist in spare parts review for ensuring equipment maintainability and availability.
  • Monitoring and monthly KPI reporting on mechanical integrity stats.
  • Resolve assigned open PSM action items assigned by designated due date.
  • Other activities as assigned by the Calumet management team.
  • Interact with other Calumet departments and sites for resource knowledge.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant Engineering field, and technical experience in fixed equipment in a Refining, Chemical, Renewables, or related Industrial field is preferred.
  • Flexible and willing to work rotating shifts as needed - including overtime and nights/weekend callouts.
  • Computer proficiency required.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:

  • 5+ years' experience in a Refining, Chemical, or related Industrial field is preferred.
  • Must possess skills in PC Workstation, Windows, and SAP & PSAIM knowledge is a plus.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong knowledge of API 510, API 570 and API 653 Standards and API & ASME codes.
  • Experience in risk-based assessment, fit for duty and end of life assessments a plus
  • Understanding of rotating equipment and equipment optimization is a plus.
  • Corrosion/material knowledge is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with corrosion mechanisms is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of functions and design/operation of plant fixed and rotating equipment, process and products; methods development and procedures; repair maintenance of rotating and fixed equipment.
  • Background in performing root cause failure analyses, developing corrective action plans.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities and prioritize tasks with minimal direction or oversight.
  • Plant safety experience/training regarding refinery or similar operations including but not limited to confined space, lock out tag out, hot work, safe work permits, personal protective equipment,
  • Excellent communication skills, including oral, written, and electronic.
