Job Description
  • Carry a caseload of clients in substance abuse treatment, and provide comprehensive counseling, case management, and substance abuse rehabilitation services for each client assigned to this caseload per the program requirements of the agency’s current policy and procedures.
  • Perform initial and ongoing client assessment (to include ASI evaluations, ASAM case reviews) for each client assigned to this counselor’s caseload.
  • Develop goals and objectives responsive to client need and areas of impairment, and formulate initial and ongoing treatment planning and related agency required documentation.
  • Assist the clients in establishing reachable goals, and record the clients’ progress in pursuit of these goals.
  • Attend weekly consultation with clinical staff team for purpose of reviewing the appropriate level of care per ASAM criteria, and discuss progress or lack of progress of each client.
  • Perform case management of clients, including the arrangement of necessary adjunct and ancillary appointments as well as the arrangement of transportation for such appointments.
  • Perform clinical crisis intervention as needed per guidelines in the policy and procedures manual.
  • Facilitate group therapy as assigned and record group progress in the case record.
  • Assist the Counselors in Training in the organization and delivery of client education, including seminars and multimedia presentations on such topics as alcohol and drug education, recovery dynamics, life skills education, anger management, etc.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to Counselors in Training, acting as a model of professionalism and imparting the philosophy of Serenity Recovery Centers. Assist the Clinical Director in the development of skills and techniques among the Counselors in Training.
  • Maintain strict adherence to federal confidentiality law (CFR-42R) and client rights at all times, and act as advocate for such clients’ rights.
  • Maintain general appearance and cleanliness of facility and assignment of clients to specific tasks during designated hours, or as necessary, to maintain facility in an appropriate manner.
  • Obtain the ongoing training requirements necessary for retention of professional license as a counselor (LADAC) / MSW, and independently retain this license without interruption during employment in this position. Counselors are expected to demonstrate a commitment to professional growth and development in the area of alcohol and drug related training.
  • Maintain current CPR and First Aid certification at all times.
  • Perform other assignments per direction of the Program Director that become necessary in carrying out the daily programming activities of Serenity Recovery Center’s treatment regimen.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's, Master's degree, and/or license in the field of behavioral health or addictions field of study or a combination of both. Demonstrable experience in interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrable commitment to own recovery, if applicable. Willing to submit to flexible schedules. If recovering, 2 years sobriety desired.
