Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We're Looking For:

Iridium is seeking a seasoned Software Engineer to join our Product Software Engineering Team. As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for enhancing and sustaining the source code used in our mobile products and associated engineering tools. Working in this role, you'll gain valuable experience maintaining software for Iridium's transceivers while making a long-term impact on new high-quality products for our customers. What You'll Do:

    Improve and maintain software for Iridium transceivers
  • Integrate, build, and configuration manage source code from disparate vendors and sources
  • Participates in reviews of work performed by other team members
  • Diagnose and debug transceiver to space vehicle communication performance issues
  • Investigate and resolve field-reported product issues
  • Create software requirements and plan for test validation
  • Write and maintain regression tests for product software
  • Write ICDs and document APIs for existing and future products
  • Install and maintain software continuous integration systems
  • Work collaboratively with software, hardware, and system development engineers
  • Work cross functionally to instill a strong culture of product quality within the organization
Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or technical field
  • 5+ years' of experience using and developing the following skills:
    • Developing real-time embedded software in C
    • Developing ancillary tools in Python
  • 2+ years' experience using Agile methods including Scrum or Kanban
  • Demonstrated understanding of software production via continuous integration
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to confidently present products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues
  • Possess an analytical mindset, with the ability to understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions or come up with solutions
  • Be comfortable managing upward, including being a proactive communicator and asking for help when needed
  • Have confidence and be able to establish valuable relationships with others
  • Must be able to prioritize key tasks and have a strong sense of ownership over your work
  • Be active in seeking out ways to continuously improve yourself and gain new knowledge

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Experience using Linux command-line interfaces
  • Demonstrated embedded systems troubleshooting experience
  • Exposure to Atlassian software management tools (JIRA or Bamboo etc)
  • Demonstrated understanding of best practices for software version control
  • Experience with Subversion or Git version control systems
  • Knowledge of RF communication systems and protocols
  • Working knowledge of bash, make and similar programming languages

We'll also need you to:

  • Be on call
  • Be able to travel up to 30 days per year
  • US Citizenship required

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer. For meetings in-person, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office and climb stairs on occasion.
