Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We're Looking For:

If you are experienced in development, testing, and sustainment engineering activities, then we would enjoy having you on our Product Engineering team. As an Engineering Manager, you'll be responsible for overseeing product testing and analysis as well as supporting team members with advanced product knowledge. You'll thrive in this role if you love switching between the end-user's perspective and software details, have experience with modern development practices, and are familiar with CI/CD pipelines. In addition to these responsibilities, you'll also get the chance to coach and mentor junior engineers, helping to shape the future of our team.

What You'll Do:

    Foster and develop a highly effective team of Engineers to perform test and analysis of embedded software
  • Mentor and train your team by performing regular check-ins, discussing career growth opportunities, giving constructive feedback, and managing conflict when necessary
  • Perform test planning, procedure development, and analysis activities for all aspects of the embedded software of Iridium transceivers
  • Provide high-quality, cost-effective system integration, test, and support services
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of product testing, including risk-based test planning
  • Play a key role in activities to define the configurations of lab environments
  • Work collaboratively with multi-sited global teams of software, hardware, and system development engineers
  • Work cross functionally to instill a strong culture of product quality within the organization
  • Support customers and team members to achieve project delivery milestones
  • Provide analysis, make suggestions, and implement processes that reduce test cycle time and improve product quality
  • Accountable for the development of documentation that clearly presents information for various stakeholders
Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical or computer engineering or a related technical field
  • 10+ years' progressive experience in an engineering role, with experience in product test automation
  • Previous management experience required
  • Capable of being a strong motivator and source of direction for your team and role modelling commitment to your team's goals
  • Have a people-oriented mentality and be able to build meaningful relationships with senior leadership on your team and in other departments
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues clearly and confidently, and recognize and adapt to different communication techniques
  • Be able to analyze and understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions, come up with and evaluate unique solutions, and see those solutions through to completion
  • Be independent and self-motivated and demonstrate a high degree of creativity, flexibility, and resourcefulness
  • Have a strong sense of urgency in driving projects to completion and be motivated to achieve outcomes and results
  • Can thrive in a dynamic environment and efficiently manage multiple or complex projects while continuously looking for new and enhanced ways of doing things

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Experience in test automation at multiple levels (e.g., unit, integration, sub-system, and system levels)
  • Experience using Agile methods including Scrum or Kanban
  • Experience with embedded systems development or testing
  • Experience working with remote global teams
  • Demonstrated understanding of software production via continuous integration
  • Knowledge of Linux and/or Unix operating systems
  • Exposure to laboratory test equipment (network analyzers, state machine driven traffic simulators, protocol analyzers, etc.)
  • Knowledge of software management tools (e.g., JIRA, Git, GitLab)
  • Knowledge of high-availability software and hardware systems

We'll also need you to:

  • Willing and able to travel up to 30 days annually
  • US Citizenship is required

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer. For in person meetings, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office and climb stairs on occasion.
