Who we are:

The German International School Washington D.C. (GISW) is a leading international school in the Washington DC metro area. For over 60 years, GISW has been teaching children from preschool through twelfth grade. Aside from being the first MINT-EC school in the USA, GISW offers a U.S. High School Diploma as well as a German International Abitur (DIA) to its students. The German International School Washington D.C. seeks a teacher for the Preschool.

OPENING BEGINS: Immediately

GENERAL INFORMATION: The position will start as a Long-Term Substitute with the possibility of turning into a permanent contract. The hours for the Afternoon Program are Monday-Friday, 1:15 pm - 3:15 pm. In addition to these hours, there is a vacancy for 9 hours per week for English Language Enrichment. Additional hours for preparation may be added.

DESCRIPTION:  Supervises children ages two to four years old in the sleeping area, activity areas and on the playground  Becomes familiar with the tenets of the Preschool program and adheres to the core mission  Works with group of children ages two to four years old and plans age-appropriate activities  Active participation in teacher training and staff meetings  Additional assignment for the language enrichment program

REQUIREMENTS:  Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or has completed the 90-hour course in Early Childhood Development Curriculum  Minimum of two-year full time teaching experience in a licensed preschool in DC, Maryland and/or Virginia  Fulfills all the requirements to be a preschool teacher under the rules of the Office of Child Care (OCC) and be evaluated as a teacher by the OCC  Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with staff members, children and parents  Demonstrates flexibility and excellent customer service skills  Fluent in the German and English languages (written and spoken)  Authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer
