This opportunity is:

Location: Aiea Heights, Hawaii

Status: As needed

Days/Hours: TBD

Base Pay: $21.12 to $23.23

In this role, you will:

  • Orienting and embedding of tissue specimens
  • Verifying and completing orders for special procedures of tissue blocks
  • Trimming and cutting of tissue blocks
  • Preparing slides and mounting tissue sections on slides
  • Manual or automated H&E staining of slides
  • Doing manual and automated staining for special stain procedures as trained
  • Doing manual or automatic cover slipping of slides
  • Labeling slides with paper labels in the number sequence and distributing slides to correct courier pick-up stations
  • Routine maintenance and cleanup of workstations
  • Preparing and loading reagents on the recycler; daily testing of alcohol/xylene percentage and purity of reagents
  • Routine maintenance of tissue processors and automated strainers, H&E staining station, and automated cover slipper
  • Ensuring adequate inventory of supplies and reagents by informing the department purchasing manager of needs
  • Maintaining routine records and files in the appropriate order
  • Filing tissue blocks in the correct hospital and dermatology office boxes
  • Answering the phone in a friendly, professional, and efficient manner within established guidelines
  • Doing daily routine cleanup of staining dishes, counters, and floors
  • Modifying (add, delete, or change) orders one existing case in the power path system
  • Adhere to all protocols as described in the Clinical Lab of Hawaii Policy and Procedure manual as related to job duties

All you need is:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • A.S. or B.S. Degree in Laboratory science or science medical technology from an accredited college or University.
  • Strong reading, writing, and analytical skills
  • Ability to operate general laboratory equipment, including but not limited to telephones, computers, automated analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, manual and automated pipettes, and audible alarms
