Job Description
We are looking for qualified Washington DC Residence based technicians to join our 3-year apprentice program developed in conjunction with DC’s Department of Employment Services (DOES). The apprenticeship program provides on-the-job training and classroom or online instruction in the low voltage trade while providing 40 hours per week of paid work. The candidate must successfully pass a probationary period before being enrolled in the apprenticeship program.
The perfect candidate will have a great attitude and a willingness to learn. The candidate should also want to develop and pursue a career in the low voltage construction industry.
POSITION – Cable Puller / Low Voltage Apprentice
Primary Requirements: Washington DC resident with 0-3 years of experience in structured cabling for Voice, and Video, Data, and have a current OSHA-10 certification prior to onboarding
Secondary Requirements: Fiber, Access Control, Security, CCTV, Intrusion Detection, Emergency Call, Intercom and/or Audio Visual
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
- Perform a variety of installation tasks to include cable pulling, termination, testing, programming and all necessary verbal/written communications
- Perform service call activities for structured cabling and other low voltage systems
- Demonstrate resourcefulness in assessing and troubleshooting of issues and problems
- Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications and schematics
- Continually learn new products, upgrades and software programs related to low voltage systems
- Represent HS Solutions in a professional manner at all times
- Abide by OSHA regulations and use protective equipment as required
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a great attitude
- Must be willing to learn from superiors and peers on the field
- Must be able to attend classes online or in person at least once a week
- Must successfully pass a probationary period
- Must be able to get to and from project sites independently and on time
- Excellent interpersonal skills, good verbal and written communication
- Ability to work independently or on a team at multiple locations in the DC Metro area
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and find effective solutions
- Ability to troubleshoot in a fast-paced environment
- Must have clean driving and criminal records and successfully pass a drug test
- Working knowledge of hand and power tools is desirable
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work on heights (lifts and ladders)
- Must be able to climb, crawl and raise objects overhead
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Must have high school diploma or GED
- Must pass English and math qualification exam
- Must have valid OSHA-10 Certification
COMPENSATION INFORMATION
- This position has a non-negotiable established 3-year hourly rate adjustment schedule
- Apprentice Wage Scale rates will apply depending on project assignment
