Position Purpose:  Provide oversight and direct clinical support to mental health wellness program designed for the employees and families of the Winnebago County Sheriff’s department; including Sheriff’s deputies, jail officers and emergency dispatch personnel.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or other related field.
  • Licensed in the state of Illinois (LCPC, LCSW, LMFT) preferred.
  • Minimum of two years’ therapy experience providing an array of therapeutic approaches: CBT, EMDR, exposure therapy.
  • Previous experience and/or competency providing trauma-informed care to first responders and their families. Willingness to receive further training in this specialty.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, a collaborative style of working with others, and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent time management
  • Computer data entry ability
  • Must be emotionally and medically able to perform essential job responsibilities.
  • Must be free from active or infectious diseases.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Provide individual, couple, and group therapy when appropriate.
  2. Accompany officers in the field to provide on-site support.
  3. Providing initial and follow-up debriefing to personnel involved in critical incident response.
  4. Providing resiliency training on psychological and stress management, officer wellness, critical incidents, suicide awareness and prevention for first responders.
  5. Provide psychoeducational services to officers to build symptom awareness for mental illness, substance use, and suicidality.
  6. Documentation of services in client records management database/electronic health records system, ensuring confidentiality of client information
  7. Consulting and collaborating with staff, management, and health care professionals about matters related to mental health.
  8. Potentially supervise staff or interns
