Youth Program Assistant

Job Objective: Assist in the supervision, direction, and spiritual guidance to the youth in the corps programming. Provide a safe and secure environment for all program participants.

Essential Functions:

• Oversee and implement youth programs
• Provide referrals to appropriate agencies/services when further assistance is needed
• Encourage youth in all areas including Salvation Army religious training (e.g., Sunday School)
• Work cooperatively and jointly with staff, program participants and outside agencies to provide high quality programming
• Serve as liaison between youth and other organizations/agencies
• Promote the spiritual dimension of The Salvation Army, emphasizing the importance of Christian influence and evangelism in all Salvation Army ministries, including delivery of program services in contemporary settings
• Represent The Salvation Army's purpose, philosophy and function to the community
• Serve as driver when needed in program support services, i.e., food pickups, seasonal responsibilities related to Christmas fund-raising, including bell ringing and other duties as assigned
• Maintain attendance records for youth program participants and visitors
• Maintain confidentiality of records and information
• Assist in the orderliness of program space and equipment
• Maintain program equipment and supplies inventory
• Other duties as directed to possibly include platform ministry, including preaching, in the future

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Minimum high School diploma or equivalent preferred

Experience: One-year youth related program experience preferred

Age: Must be at least 18 years old

Certifications/Licenses:

• CPR / AED for the professional rescuer certification preferred
• First Aid Certification preferred
• Must complete all initial in-service training

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Physical Requirements: Include actively participating in activities with children, standing for long periods of time; walking, running, bending, reaching; lift up to 25 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Travel: Travel to program conferences outside of Kansas City, MO area up to 2 times per year; at least one conference requires an overnight stay. Travel to youth functions up to 3 times per year. Local travel as required to conduct official business.

Driving: Must possess a valid driver's license from the state of residence. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive a Salvation Army on Salvation Army business.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical office, classroom and community center environment; weekend and evening work required.
